The stock recoil spring in my used BD police was definitely lighter than the one in my P-01, but that's the nature of compact slides.

It is only slightly stiffer than the 12# spring I replaced it with (speaking of my 75 BD Police).

I'm not familiar with the P-07, but I'm not surprised that your BD racks easier than your P-07.   I would use the advice of CGW:  You are good to go, if your spent cases eject about 6 to 8 feet.

My original comment on racking the slide actually had to do with the lower height of CZ slides.  In other words, there is less slide to grab with your hand when racking the slide.  I have found this to not be an issue for me however.

"but I am curious, is the 75 easier to rack than the polymer P series?"

Yes the 75 is easier to rack than my p-07

OK guys, thanks for the feedback, makes me feel more at ease.  All the same, the recoil spring is cheap and will get replaced when it gets here in a few days.

As far as I am concerned, most springs on semi auto firearms are consumables and get replaced at regular (5K rounds is typical) intervals.

Congrats on the BD ... That is my favorite CZ overall (just don't tell my PCR or SP-01 that!)

After a good wring out I've identified three general areas that need to be addressed: grips, magazines, and springs.

Grips: The standard plastic grips are just too wide around the palm swell, measuring 1.39" across with my calipers.  That width makes it problematic to hit the mag release without significantly altering my grip.  I have a set of tiger stripe VZ G10 grips on the way to reduce the thickness to 1.208" and improve the looks in the process.

Magazines: the steel base plates pinch my side something fierce when carrying a spare on my belt on the off side, particularly while driving as my car has heavily bolstered front seats.  I have some rubber covered base plates on the way to fix that.  Also, the mag springs are getting replaced with CZ Custom +5% springs, as I have noticed one or two instances of rounds nosediving into the feed ramp.  That has only happened when I slap the bottom of the mag hard enough to auto forward the slide, but once is too many.

Springs: I've had one or two instances where the slide has failed to return to battery during a reload (I drop the slide using the slide release) or after retracting it to do a chamber check.  I'm replacing the recoil spring with a factory original to see if that problem goes away.  The slide is well lubricated in its tracks, BTW.

This gun is going to become my go to IDPA SSP tool, so some support gear is needed as well.  I have a Winthrop leather pancake holster and a Big Dog kydex dual mag pouch on the way, as well as a third magazine (MecGar) to get me kitted up.  Everything should be here well before the next IDPA match so I'll have time to wring everything out.

Hmm fast shipping even with a holiday weekend in the way.

Got home from work and the holster, mag carrier, extra mag, and recoil spring were waiting for me.

Now hopefully CZ Custom ships the grips, mag springs, and mag baseplates tomorrow.

Edit: just got shipment confirmation of my CZ Custom order.  I'm a happy camper.

Can't wait for the weekend.....

I have used the stock plastic grips and the rubber ones - I ended up standardizing on VZ grips on all of my CZs. I have Tactical Diamonds on the 75BDs and the PCR and my SP-01 has a set of Diamondbacks waiting for it as soon as the gun comes home from CGW. I didn't have issues reaching the controls - if anything the rubber grips were a slightly better fit but they liked to grab my clothes too much. I like the aggressiveness of the VZs ... better purchase on the gun but they don't grab at my clothes.

Oh, this happens with me too... especially with the shorter compact mags. I think I have a permanent scar LOL For me it is really the side of the baseplate that digs in. I have the rubber baseplates on all of my range/training mags... I'll have to try them for carry one day and see if they are more comfortable.

I am curious to see how the mag spring change works out. I haven't had that kind of feeding issue but under stress (when I am more likely to slam that mag in) I don't want to either :)

I've seen this when doing chamber checks on the guns when brand new - it seems to become a non-issue when the guns break in a bit. At least that was my experience.

I see.  But this gun is not new.  I think I am its third owner, at least.  And the slide felt almost too easy to retract.  I installed the new recoil spring earlier today and the slide feels and seems to go into battery with more authority.  I really think the original spring was getting fatigued from cyclical stresses, so it was time for it to go.  Spring changes are just basic maintenance on semi autos.

Ahh... MORE than broken in then :) It surprises me to discover that some people never change the springs LOL

Alright it's picture time......

The factory plastic grips are in storage, replaced with these VZ tigerstripe fine diamond beauties.  They make the gun fit like it was made for me, give incredible purchase, and are not abrasive when you drive with the gun holstered.

The factory mags have been rebuilt with CZ Custom rubber covered baseplates and +5% springs.  The recoil spring has been replaced with a new factory part, and the back face of the front sight painted in fluorescent yellow.

I've got a holster, mag carriers, and three mags.  I'm going to have some fun at IDPA this Sunday......
