My Pcr - Maybe the "Before" Pic
« on: September 12, 2014, 03:57:04 PM »

I haven't decided yet what mods to do on this new Pcr, so I thought I'd do a basic "before" pic, first.

Also, I have a lot of trouble with pics of flat black firearms, so this is a method I've started working on. I'll take comments on the technique, also.

Oh, and the CZ does not come with a knife installed - that's my wife's plate holder behind it.

Have fun shooting it. It is the best compact out there.

The picture looks great. As for mods, I can only recommend shooting it for awhile. After that, if you want some changes, then call CGW or CZC and they will be able to help you figure out what will suit your needs.

Thanks. I have figure out a way to get light on the bottom, but it's coming along.

The only problem I have with mods is knowing where to stop.

Ya. They can get out of control. Once you decide what you will use it for ie: sd, range etc. it will help decide what mods. Some guys like them just the way they are without any mods. Gives them more money to buy more guns. :)

Jaywalker: Cajun Gun Works is building a PCR for me with the Pro Package of modifications.  I sent them a 10-8 rear site and CZ fiber optic front.  The frame has been Cerakoted in Satin Aluminum by my local smith Bunker Arms.  I also have CZs with the frame done in Hard Chrome by APW Cogan.  If you look at the CGW Facebook page, the 97B with the hard chrome frame is mine as well.  Very durable finish. Good luck with you PCR.

Some G10 or aluminum grips would be my first mod

Jay,  that's a nice pistol and a good pic.  I don't see a shadow (no pun) and everything is clea, in focus  and has good light.

Like said above,  shoot the heck out of it + dry fire and then decide your primary use for the pistol;  and go from there.

Thanks.

I'd like a few mods - CGW Reduced Reach Kit, hammer, springs, smoothing, grips, and all that.

Today (and it may change), good carrying sights will likely be first. I'm having trouble with the sight picture on this - it may be my eyes are getting older, but the rear reflects a lot, and there's not enough light visible around the front sight. I really need sights I can see so that I can shoot it until I decide what I need next.

Here's what I did. Shot my P-01 a lot then decided what I was going to use it for. For me, my P-01 is going to be more of a home defense gun with some winter carry and occasional warmer weather carry (G19 is my primary). I wanted to make sure I could ignite any primer so I went with a 15# mainspring which lets me use all my OEM springs and will ignite any primer. I followed the thread on polishing up my internals and did the job myself. I switched my mag release while I was at it, since I'm a lefty. I installed the excellent CGW floating trigger pin and also the reduced power trigger return spring (that alone must have taken off a pound or so in DA pull). Today I just sent my slide off to CGW to get mepro-light night sites installed and their solid spring steel FP retaining pin. This gives me a great home defense and carry pistol that is tough as nails and dead nuts reliable. All in all the mods were very inexpensive and I've learned a lot doing the internal polishing.

I'm hoping around the holiday to have my frame redone since I've noticed polycoat is prone to chipping on the aluminum frame. Just doing some basic drills I've managed to chip the polycoat around my mainspring, scruff it on the back a little, and my decocker even has a little chip out of it. I'm thinking of using Easton Firearms Refinishing to do mine. He's a forum member here and in my same state so I figure that's got to count for something hahaha. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks - always good advice to shoot before spending on mods.

I may try blacking out the Pcr rear sights, as I have trouble getting a good sight picture - gap too narrow, rear too reflective, who knows? That would likely be easier and cheaper than internal mods, and might even work!

The sights are my only complaint about my PCR, especially with zero upgrade options for a clean fit on the rear cuts.  However, I can make due with the stockers until someone comes up with something better, which probably won't happen with demand.  It's still a great handgun.

Well, it isn't my only concern, but it's pretty far up there. With them, I can't see the sights well enough to take advantage of some probably pretty capable pistol technology. I may ask a local gunsmith to open up the rear sight a little and see if that improves them enough to stop having concerns.

Also, put a drop of fingernail polish on the front sight and see if that helps.

Maybe blacking out the rear and adding a fiber optic front sight, if the correct size is available.
