CZ 455 Varmint .22 WMR Has Come Home
« on: September 16, 2014, 09:16:14 PM »
Today I brought home my first CZ!  After some delay  :( it finally came in.  I won the gun in a gun bash...event.  When I went to claim my prize, they took my info and then the organizers informed me it wasnt at the giveaway as it was back ordered.  They told me it was going to be in next week and to come back then -- which was fine.  So I drive back down, keep in mind that its at a 120 mi round trip, and it still wasn't in!

Anyway - It finally came in today!  So now I am now the proud owner of a new CZ 455 .22 WMR.  Since this is really my first new gun (my other guns were inherited and already ready to go) I have some questions.
  • What's the first thing I need to do?
  • Does it require a pre-cleaning before use?
  • The piece of paper with the test fire info from the factory - what its for and what information do I need to retain from it?
  • I am going to need a scope as it has no iron sites, any suggestions for this particular gun?  Just off the top of your head, I will look through the site for threads about scopes, but I suspect that they are more than I can spend now so I would prefer a budget friendly recommendation.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to some answer noob questions.

Clean the barrel first.  Might take 5 patches, might take 40, just depends.

The paper is for function, not accuracy.  Just leave it in the box incase you ever sell it.  Some buyers like to see the test target.

Scope......what are you going to use the rifle for?  Paper, hunting or other?

Is it am American or Varmint?

Saw the title after I answered the first time.  I just to be more observant......

Other.....maybe reactive target or non-bench shooting.

For shooting paper, I would go with a 12-16 or larger.  A used Nikon or Weaver will run around $200.  A nice Nikon just sold in the trading post for $185.
