first CZ, not what I expected(serial numbers dont match)
« on: September 30, 2014, 04:20:30 PM »
Ive been looking to buy a 75 shadow for a while now, and because California is changing their laws for what handguns you can purchase at the end of the year I bought one. found it on-line, had it transfered to my ffl, did the song and dance(10 day wait, lots of fees) I get it home and the serial numbers on the slide and barrel don't match the frame.... I'm not real happy about it. cz custom has offered to machine the serial number off the slide and re polycoat it or replace the gun all together. Machining the serial number still doesn't fix that the parts are from two differant guns. If I replace the gun I will be paying shipping $30-$60 and California's fees $90, so around $150 to get the gun the way it should have been the first time. Maybe I'm being unrealistic in the expectation that when you buy a new gun that it would come with the correct parts? I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem? or if this is normal for CZ?

when you say you ought it on line, do you mean from a private party or from CZC?  Just curious.  In either case sounds like CZC wants to make it right.  I would think that its not so important to have original parts that left the factory, rather ones that fit together properly.  One of the factory parts may have been defective and replaced in the QC line.  California may have strict laws about the serial numbers matching etc. that I am not aware of.  If the gun came from CZC directly then I would think they would be happy to cover the shipping charges.

The gun was not purchased through cz custom, however they did sell it to the ffl I bought the gun from. I spoke with cz custom and they don't switch parts for fit or function on factory guns. CA laws only care about the serial number of the firearm i.e. the frame. i've never owned a cz before, but in my opinion the fit is not very good. slide wiggles and the barrel wiggles in the slide. I've looked at two other CZ's in stores and both are better fit(both being almost half the cost)

Sounds like you bought a Frankenstein gun someone made and might have not known how to fit parts if the barrel wobbles with the slide forward.

You said you bought the gun new? From who? A new gun should be all matching.

The reason that there are serial numbers on barrels from CZ is due to Czech regulations that treat barrels individually as controlled items. If the fitting is proper and it shoots well as a gun from CZC should, I wouldn't worry about it even if it's not normal to have non-matching barrel and slide/frame serial numbers. Just IMHO.

I agree that it should still proform. Let me put it this way. If you were at the gun store and your looking at two of the same firearms. One has all matching numbers, the other doesn't. Both the same price, same gun, and will both function the same. Which one do you buy?

Bummer. I would take CZC up on their offer and swap that sucker out. It seams that you are not happy with the fit so a swap out is the only way to fix it.

It is unfortunate that you have to deal with this at all but it happened. Get another gun and move on down the road.

Ill be checking all of my serial numbers from now on.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

This in spades.  The barrel should not wiggle nor the slide wobble.  What is your FFL doing about it?  If not him then CZ Custom ought to be doing more for you then they have offered.  Ask to speak to Angus.

If CZC doesn't switch parts, then I'd be asking the guy you bought it from a few questions.  Not trying to place the blame, but  what does the person you bought it from have to say?

If CZ is giving you two options, just pick one. In this case it would appear they are giving you a better deal than they legally need to.

IMO, since it's not CZC's fault and they are trying to make it right even though it's not their fault, you should talk to the FFL dealer you purchased it from. Or take one of CZC's offers.

Whoever is the reason for the mistake (FFL, CZC), I would recommend to swap it. Else there would be a forever regret. How to go about swapping it, get your FFL or CZC to cover up for additional costs. Or some extra goodies in the new gun such as a comp hammer with trigger job..

I have 6 gun stores within 3 miles of where I live, out of those 6 stores there are 4 CZ's. this is the first time buying off the internet, and will be the last.

I'm planing on sending the gun back for an exchange. I'm trying to figure out what cost I'm stuck with. Custom work would be nice, but I'm not looking for free stuff.

Thanks for all the input, I guess I'm over thinking this. I'm just going to pay the extra money, I'll he glad I did in the long run.
