USPSA Classes
« on: October 01, 2014, 08:06:15 AM »
Good morning, I would like to learn how to shoot in USPSA and IDPA matches. I'm from the Chicago area and I would appreciate and feedback or direction on what route to take. Thanks!

Both IDPA and USPSA have club finders on their web sites.   Find the clubs and see if they have classes.   The gun club I belong too has 8 different action shooting disciplines.   We have a generic class that focuses on safety that people take to be allowed to use the action ranges.  I know that one of the other local clubs has a different format that's USPSA specific.

As a good start, even before you take classes, go to www.powerfactorshow.com and watch their videos, particularly the early ones.
Don't mistake my high post count for knowledge or wisdom.   I just like hearing myself type.

+1 to the above.  Locate a club close to you and just join in on the fun.  http://www.uspsa.org/locate-uspsa-clubs.php

The local shooters will most likely be your best bet for information on how to get started, what gear works best, where to get it, and maybe even how best to train.  For the most part I am self-taught but I have taken a couple of classes from one of the National Champions which was well worth the time and expense.

There are online forums such as Brian Enos that can help point you in the right direction, answer questions etc... but just getting out and shooting a match or three is the first big step in the right direction.  I went from a casual plinker to a shoot-a-match-every-weekend plus nightly dry fire sessions, and have been loving every minute of it.
