P-01 and left handed shooters
« on: October 04, 2014, 12:41:31 PM »
I'm a lefty and have a P-01 on the way. I was wondering if the decocker can be moved to the right side, possibly taking the ambi decocker from the SP-01 Tactical, cutting it and installing. I'm aware the width difference between the two pistols making it impossible to just swap out the the two making the P-01 an ambi. Has anyone heard of this modification or similar? if not, any suggestions for lefties to go about operating the decocker?

Use your finger or switch hands to decock? I carry Sigs and I'm left handed. I use my finger. Decocking is not a time critical skill like reloading on empty or racking the slide so the extra second or so to switch my grip slightly at the conclusion of a string of fire is no big deal.

if you're concerned about decocking in a self defense situation - I would say this: when in the middle of a gunfight do you envisage it would be either prudent or necessary to decock your pistol? Decocking is something you do when you are finished with the pistol, either because you have finished shooting or you are out of ammunition. In either case, it won't matter, because the fight is over, or the pistol is empty, so you can take your time.

I'm with Grendel. I'm a lefty and I don't ever worry that I'll need to decock my P-01 in a rush. I just use my right hand thumb up over the top of the slide to decock (have to can't the pistol slightly to the right).

The guys above have already covered the the lack of need for an ambi decoker. I agree with this.

Though i have no first hand experiences on the subject. I believe the modification has been done.

I have seen it mentioned a few times.

It might be worth calling CZ Custom shop to further explore the situation.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)
