Carry gun options?
« on: October 24, 2014, 06:03:00 AM »
I've had a SP-01 for years and I love it.  I'm looking for a carry gun now and I'd really like a CZ.  I personally have been looking at the PCR and guns built from the PCR.  I like the lighter weight and don't need a rail for carry.  My SP is a safety model though, so I kind of wonder if switching back and forth might be an issue, but I'm not over concerned about it. I fully intend to either buy something that's already tricked out or have whatever I get worked on by the pros. One other thing I have to admit.  I like having something that's different.  When I got my SP it was something very few people had heard of.  It caught people's attention and still does.  It would be a bonus to have a carry piece that was a conversation piece too.

Here I am in the den of the guys with the most awesome CZ's there are.  So what do you carry and what would you suggest I look into carrying?

I carry a Kahr CW9, because its so light and thin. I would make sure any gun you buy to carry, shoots to POA for you, and one that you can draw and fire without thinking. For me this means no holsters with thumb breaks, no mechanical means of retension, no weapons with manual safeties.

If you want alloy like the PCR, but manual safety try finding a P-02. They have safety or decocker  and the omega trigger but hard to find. CZC had a couple in stock a few weeks back, but not sure if they still have one.

The PCR or 75D Compact as it is known as well would be an excellent choice for a carry gun.  The gun uses the Decocker rather than a manual safety.  Once you understand how it works and how safe the gun is to carry decocked I would suggest you will have little desire to seek out a gun with a manual safety for your intended purpose.  The gun shoots like a laser, is well made with CZ's well deserved reputation for reliability, lighter than a steel framed gun and has excellent ergonomics.  Not much not to like.  Some replace the trigger with the smoother 85 Combat trigger.  I have not simply because I don;t shoot the gun a lot at anyone time and I appreciate the serrated trigger.  I can understand those who like to spend time try firing their guns.  The trigger would prove abrasive over time I would think.

Let us know what you decide.

For the ease of having all of my guns the same I sold my PCR and P-01 and purchased a Canick so it is alloy frame compact but has a safety. Even uses my CZ mags.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

My main carry pistol is the RAMI for the South Florida hot and humid days.
I do switch off with my PCR, P-01 & P-01, and carry these three more when I am in the WNC Mountains. I also open carry one of my S&W revolvers there too.

Same here. I currently own a stainless 75B, a 75 Compact and a Canik C100. All three have a safety, rather than a decocker. I like that they all function the same.

One of the nice thing about safety models  is the having the option to carry in any of three modes.
I like simple.  Pull the pistol and pull the trigger,  so DA or half cock works great. Those preferring cocked and locked can do that too.
A win-win pistol.

Go with the PCR! Designed for CCW  and it just gets better with upgrades.

Don't worry about operation. You'll have so much fun shooting it the training/muscle memory will set in quickly. I can't image limiting myself to one style of operating system; goodbye 1911s, so long Glock (wouldn't really miss it much), sorry Shield we only just got to know each other, SAO 97 you're great it's not you it's me, Blackhawk we traveled many a trail together but you got to go, so long 75B you were my first CZ but my Phantom, PCR, & 40P are just better then you I read it on the internet,  I have to stop - getting teary eye just thinking about it.   :'( :'(

I carry a revolver in the wood occasionally.  So the idea of point and pull isn't exactly foreign.  I'm definitely not going to o get bent over it.

I was checking out a P-01 at a LGS the other day.  Very nice and with some upgraded sights, grips, and springs I'm sure it'd get even better.  The only downside that has me pausing on getting one is the width of the frame for IWB carry.  Its pretty chunky and felt like a G19 or way fatter than a BHP or 4" 1911 which are my normal choices for carry guns.

I need to seek out a PCR or the 75B Compact to see what those feel like.  I'm on the fence with a decocker.  Manual safety wouldn't bother me.

I don't think you would have any worries with the frame width on the P-01, as it rotates with a P-07 and Steyr carried IWB in a leather holster. The only gripe that I have with my P-01 are the stock rubber grips; my shirt catches on them and the palm swell increases the thickness just a little bit more than I like.

I love that Palm swell. It is the grip of the P-07 that catches on my skin. Now I wear a shirt tucked  in and one over the concealed guns.

I went with a PCR built for me by CGW.  The gun is CGW's current cover photo on their Facebook page.  David supplied the base gun and I had him put the "Pro" package in the gun, sent him a 10-8 rear sight that he milled into the slide and requested that he send the frame to my local smith, Bunker Arms, to Cerakote the frame in "Brushed Aluminum."  I also had VZ Frag grips installed.  Pistol runs great and is very accurate.
All my other CZs have the dual Shadow safeties and I mainly shoot 1911s so like the "cocked and locked" feature of those guns.  However, it didn't take long to become accustomed to the decocker and taking the fist shot from DA mode where the trigger pull is only about 7.5# and the SA is about 3.5#.
This is my third CZ to be "Cajunized" and I like them all, but the PCR is one of my favorites.
