97BD - 2 Question.
« on: October 27, 2014, 08:51:59 PM »
So I have used my 97BD in Limited 10 during my last 2 USPSA matches and now have 2 questions on additional parts

1. Can I get an extended Mag release? If so where?
2. Many times during the last 2 matches I have had a difficult time getting full mags (10 rounds) to seat completely unless I slam them in HARD. (my left palm is sore today) Also, many times the first round out of a full mag will not feed properly and I need to push the slide forward OR re-rack the slide. My thinking is if there was less tension in the mags they may feed better. Question is, does anyone know of extended base pads for 97 mags? Or another solution?

You can file down a CZ extended mag release to the round profile so it will fit the 97B/BD. I believe that Cajun Gun Works offers this service as well if you would rather not do it your self, this is the way i would go.

I cannot adequately answer your second question. Loaded to 10 rounds my 97 mags are a tight fit as well and require extra force to seat. I am curious to hear others input to your question.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Rip,

1.  I have one on order from CGW right now.  I will update my grip size thread below once I have it in hand and will post up some pictures.  I opted to have CGW perform the Mod as he refinishes it too.

2.  I experience the same with my 97BD with round nose bullets.  I think the bullet profile is hitting the underside of the slide during insertion.  I don't have the problem with the SWC's I'm currently reloading.  It only seems to be difficult with a full 10 rd mag, if I only load 9 in the mag it's easy to insert.  I think you may be better off getting heavier mag springs.  I think it will help ensure they stack in the mag properly during loading and feed properly during cycling.

Cheers,
Toby

Thanks c-dawwwg. May go this route but they are pricey if I need 6!

I figured I would need to reach out to David on the extended mag release but look forward to seeing yours when you get it.

Thanks fro the confirmation on the 230RN. I use N310 with the 230Rn which is a nice soft load. What SWC are you using Toby?

I just started loading with them.  I purchased them off a member here as they were cheap.  It's my first time loading straight lead.  They are Caldwell 200 gr SWC with standard lube and I think they are old as I can't find Caldwell online anywhere.  I couldn't tell you what alloy they are but would guess they are the Lyman #2.  I'm loading them as long as possible but it's tricky as they aren't as consistent as the Xtreme plated bullets I've been using.

I think my next purchase is going to be a coated bullet, probably will stick with a SWC though just for ease of mag insertion and they seem to be more accurate out of my 97BD.  Some folks claim to have feeding issues with the SWC's in 97's, I haven't had any issues yet.

I'm loading them over the Maxam CSB-5 powder currently.  I wish I could track down some Vihtavouri powder at a reasonable price but that is a tall order right now.

Cheers,
Toby
