New (to me) P-01
« on: November 18, 2014, 06:12:52 PM »
Awhile ago I picked up a used but in great shape CZ-75 P-01. This isn't my first CZ/CZ style firearm as I have previously owned a CZ-75 Compact (should have kept it) and an Armalite AR-24k (piece of junk). I believe the previous owner did some trigger work on this as the DA is quite light and very smooth, and the SA is even better. I am not sure but either way I don't intend to mess with it. However, whenever I buy a used firearm I always give it a real good look and at the very least I replace the recoil spring.

Being somewhat new to CZ firearms I am not totally sure what spring I need. I google'd and found plenty of results but if someone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it, that way I am sure what I am buying is the right spring. I also noticed the guide rod is steel and I have read some conflicting information on whether steel is safe to use on alloy frames or not. Can anyone chime in and let me know if the P-01 came with a steel guide rod and if it did not I think I'd like to replace it with the stock part so a link to that would again be helpful.

Thanks in advance. Really like the firearms that CZ makes.

Congrats on the P-01. Mine came with a plastic guide rod not sure if they all do though. I noticed they sell aluminum and  steel guide rods too but wasn't sure if one is really better than the other so I just got another plastic one  when I ordered spare parts. Here are two more places for parts. http://czcustom.com/CZ-Factory-Parts.aspx and http://shop.cz-usa.com/cz-products/pistols/spare-parts/compact - Bodene

Welcome to the forum. I would call CZ and ask them what recoil spring you need. They are running a 15% sale plus free shipping over $100.00 purchase. After they inform you of the part number you can order online for the sale.

For sure!

Here's an FAQ from their website and then look under "Springs/Pins". If all you need is a recoil spring, they ship small parts promptly for a flat $3 shipping fee.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I will call CZ and find out what the correct parts are in reference to the recoil spring and original guide rod. I will also check and see if any other springs should be replaced on a used firearm. Thanks again for the warm reception.

They come with plastic guide rods. Don't replace it. It works fine and putting a steel on in can actually cause extra wear in a alloy frame gun
