Tritium Sights for the P-01
« on: November 26, 2014, 07:20:13 AM »
Where is the best place to buy Tritium sights for the P-01?  My SP-01 and my Rami came from the factory with them but the P-01 my wife bought didn't. Is that normal to not have them or was it an option on the P-01?  Seems odd to me. Also, what is involved in changing the sights on this pistol?  I actually haven't looked closely at it yet. Thanks.

I know some Sp-01's come with night sights. The P-09FDE and the RAMI BD also comes with them, hence the price difference. The PCR and P-01 do not come with them.
I know the Mepro-Lite night sights are made for CZs. Below is a link to CGW who sells them.

I purchased my Mepro-Lite night sights for my P-01 at CGW and had them installed by CGW. The sights are great and so is CGW.

Look to me like the P-01 comes with the standard 75 factory dovetail like a CZ75B. You should be good to go.

As Firemanjones stated, it is worth a call to verify this.

Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

I want these, but I don't know if they will fit on a P01...

Yes, they fit on a P-01 and they're Trijicon, which in my experience is better than Meprolights.

However, you might want to get multiple front sights of different heights to match your load.

NATO and +P rounds are going to have a lower POI, so you'll want a lower front sight to raise the POI to POA.

I'm looking at getting Novak or Kensight adjustable night sights so that I can adjust to differing loads. Of course, that would require a Novak cut rear dovetail.

I purchased the Tru Dot Tritium Night Sights SET (#4 REAR) from CZC.
The P01 stock sights are the same height as the True Dot #4 (8.1mm) and a (5.5mm) front sight.
Therefore, you should only have to worry about windage adjustments to maintain factory POA/POI.

17775: Meprolight Tru-Dot Tritium Night Sights for CZ P-01 Pistol

Installing the rear sight on the P01 will require a Sight Pusher for the most efficient removal and installation with the least likelihood of damage to the slide. However, it is still very possible to damage the slide with a SP if you are not familiar with the tool and its proper operation. Unfortunately, a sight pusher is also a spendy $$ (as much as the sights) tool. OR,  a med to large vise securely mounted, a nylon tipped drift punch and a big ass hammer. Oh yes, and some big testicals! The rear site on my P01 was staked at the factory so removing it with a punch and hammer required more than I was willing to give. Hammering and I do mean HAMMERING away on a nearly $700 pistol was just too far out of my comfort zone. The front site is pretty easy...use a roll pin punch to remove the roll pin, use the nylon tipped drift punch to push the sight forward and out of the retaining slot. Fully insert the new front sight and drill through the roll pin hole with the appropriate sized bit. This is required to create a cavity in the bottom of the new sight for the roll pin to be reinserted. Note- when drilling the front sight, drill from the left side of the barrel toward the right. This insures that the rotation of the drill does not move the sight forward from its fully seated position in the slot.
In conclusion:
It's a great feeling to competently work on your own firearms but some thing's just aren't worth the aggravation and potential problems you can create for yourself. From my personal experience,  removing and installing sights on the P01 happens to be one of those things. The potential risk of damaging the finish on the slide is a bit too high for the beginner IMO.
Therefore, I recommend spending $25 on a professional gunsmith who will have the experience and as importantly, the right tools for the job. If you do not have the tools mentioned then the gunsmith is cheaper too.
Cheers!

Thanks everyone for the replies. BDG, that's exactly the info I was looking for. I am actually pretty well mechanically competent.  I've been wrenching on motorcycles and ATV's since I was a kid, I fix everything around the house as it needs and in the last few years gotten into working on my own guns as my interest (addiction) has grown in this hobby too.  Normally I jump at the challenge of a new task that requires new skills and even a new tool or two to perform properly but this might just be one to ship out.  CZC will probably be getting a call from me.  Thanks again.

Be aware that the CZC sight pusher is not wide enough to completely remove a rear sight. It is designed to adjust an already installed sight.
The sight still needs to be started manually and removals need to be finished manually.

The CZC sight pusher can get a sight about 3/4 of the way out or in. I have still found it to be useful, especially on the stubborn sights.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

You're most welcome. I have learned so much from this site and other sources... I feel that sharing it forward is the least I can do.
I would like to add a comment based on your reply. You mentioned that you may send your P01 to the CZCustom shop. Were you thinking of just having the sights changed out or did your have other modifications in mind? If your thinking of other upgrades and finishing work; like polishing the action, changing springs, installing a hammer upgrade, new trigger, firing pin swap, etc (this does not include mechanical fine tuning which requires a greater understanding of the mechanics)... I would like to encourage you to take on those tasks yourself. If your mechanically inclined as you stated and own basic smithing tools like correct size roll pin punches, starter punches, dental picks, Dremel tools or bench mounted polishing wheel. You should be able to handle this work. These changes do not require the heavy lifting involved with swapping sights.
I have only done minor smithing on rifles (no milling, special fittings or the like) and I was able to polish the action and install the complete Cajun Gun Works Pro Kit on a SP01 without a single hiccup.

Wish you the best,

I'm having my SP-01 night sights changed to target sights and after reading this, I will have the night sights put on my carry gun, the 75C.  This forum is great. I'm learning a lot about these guns.

I wish Trijicon would make their HD sights for us.  I have some on my Glock 19 and I love them.    It's what keeps me from buying a P-01 or P-07 and selling the Glock.
Don't mistake my high post count for knowledge or wisdom.   I just like hearing myself type.
