Removing/masking CZ USA Kansas City stamping?
« on: December 12, 2014, 05:35:37 PM »
I love the glossy blue of my CZ75 but the USA stamping on the right side is almost a beige color and really sticks out. It seems too shallow to rub paint across. I've done a search and not had much luck on a remedy. Any ideas on how to reduce its visibility? Thanks.

See if you can match a crayon colour to the frame colour.  Might work better than you think.

That could work. It won't be permanent though. I was considering trying a sharpie. I'm not under the illusion the etching will be made invisible. I just need it less beige-y.

Get some Cold Blue, put some on a qtip, rub over the stamped in letters, wait 60 seconds, and rinse of with cold water to stop the bluing process. If it's not dark enough, do it again.

Will that effect the metal around the etching as well? I don't want to do anything to the gun metal around it. There's no way for me to just get it on the etched part. A sharpie would wipe off off the shiny non etched parts. Just not sure it would get very dark where I want it to.

The cold blue won't do anything to the surrounding polycoat.
All bluing is is basically "controlled rusting" of bare metal. That's why you rinse it with cold water after 60-90 seconds to stop the process.
As long as the gun is polycoat, then it won't affect the surrounding finish at all.

This is what I use for touchups on my parkerized 1911's. I even trimmed down the long ambi safties on one of mine, which left the sides of the safeties bright silver...a little cold blue, and they are black again.

Mine is actually factory glossy blue. The cold blue might effect it then.

Get some Oxpho Blue from Brownell's. I creates a beautiful, durable blue and will not harm the surrounding blued surfaces. I've been using it for more than 50 years. I couldn't live without it.

Instead of a crayon, a suggestion I made earlier, I tried a black paper mate felt pen.  The writing disappeared.  If the ink comes off when I clean the gun I will simply apply the felt pen to the writing again.  Cheap fix.

The first sharpie I tried did nothing. Must have been a weak one. Second one I tried totally did the trick. Would have been interesting to try the blue agent,. Maybe I will if sharpie wears off. Thanks guys.

I happen to have two of the Glossy blue CZ75Bs.  Those marks dont look as beige on my pieces but they do stand out against the black/blue finish The lines are very fine on the stampings so I suppose that a very fine marker would be needed.

Keithandstef, if you like this finish I would highly recommend a 97B if you can find one.
