First time out with new CZ 75 Omega
« on: December 21, 2014, 05:08:53 PM »
Picked up my CZ 75 Omega yesterday, cleaned and lubed last night. Fit and finish are overall very good, some minor rough spots in unimportant areas inside the frame and slide. The pistol was loaded with preservative grease, took me 40 minutes to get it all removed. Lubed the slide and barrel with Frog Lube paste and the internals with Frog Lube liquid. The DA pull is smooth but a little heavy, about the same as a Beretta 92 without the "D" spring modification. SA pull is good, not as clean a break as I'd like. I'd rate the trigger not as good as my Sig P228 or M11A1, but better than my Beretta 92FS. Accuracy was good, better than my 92FS but not as good as my 9mm Sigs. I suspect with after a few hundred rounds the trigger will improve. I likely will change out some springs and do some tuning after 500 rounds. I will be getting some better grips, the factory plastic is OK at best. Probably will get a set of CZ rubber grips and maybe a set of smooth wood too. I think a set of XS Big Dot night sights are in the future for this pistol too.

first 100 rounds, Freedom Arms 115gr Reman ammo shot at 15 yards. Next range session I'll run some of my handloads using a 124gr plated bullet and 2 or 3 defense type rounds.

Thank you for the range report, great pics. Nice shooting!

I agree it will smooth out allot from 200-500 rounds, my CZ's have always achieved a much improved smoothness after that many rounds. The 124g ammo will positively effect the recoil as well. I switched to reloading 124g a while back and have been pleased with the result.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Thanks for the range report! I haven't had the pleasure of shooting an Omega yet, but I plan to add one to the collection at some point.

I've got the factory rubber grips and they are great.  I've never tried the hard plastic ones but I'll bet the rubber ones will be a huge improvement for you.

Give that trigger some time and it will smooth up.  Also, there are several videos on how to smooth up the action.

Congrats on your purchase!

I love my 75B Omega.  You can get a 13lb hammer spring from CGW or CZ Custom and it will drop the DA pull down to approximately 8lbs.  Get their firing pin and spring along with a new retaining pin to complete the upgrade.  Great shooting and thanks for the range report.

I'm used to changing out hammer springs on my 1911s, Sig and Beretta pistols, but never needed to change out the firing pin and return spring. Is there a significant advantage in doing so? On most of my 1911s when I change to a much lighter hammer spring I find I need to put a heavier recoil spring to prevent frame battering. Is this something that should be done on the CZ 75B?

The newer firing pin is longer and made from better steel.  This will allow dry firing with no concern about possible firing pin damage that is known to occur with OEM firing pin and retaining pin.  Most people use a small o-ring to keep the hammer from striking the firing pin during dry firing.  Also, they suggest going to the longer firing pin with lighter firing pin spring with the lighter hammer spring.  The OEM hammer spring is a 20lb spring.  I have replace all of mine with the 13lb spring.

Thanks for pics and post.  Very nice looking gun.  I have a BD police and a P-01, neither of which has the omega trigger.  One day, I'd like to try the omega.
By the way, I have XS Big Dot sights on my P-01, but to chose to go with fiber optic and plain rear for my CZ75 BD.

Also, I really like hearing the comparison between the Sig, Beretta and CZ.  Though it's subjective, it's always good to hear what others think when comparing.
