What guide rod/spring upgrades are suggested for the SP01?

Humm... Extra mags are a must! It is so cool to be able to put almost 100 rounds in only 5 mags.

I have a newish SP-01 Tactical. I am in the process of trying out a bunch of different types of ammo, plus I have a lot of WWB to send down range to break the gun in. After all this then I might change some springs - the recoil and main springs. Being part through my ammo test I do not think I will use +p ammo, so the recoil spring will probably be changed.

I'd make sure you like the gun and that it shoots well before doing any changes/upgrades.

I went down the aftermarket guide rod road and was dissappointed to discover a steel guide rod with the flat coiled factory spring will not work because the guide rod actually needs to bend slightly during installation.

If you choose an aftermarket steel guide rod, you'll need to switch to round coiled springs, such as Wolff.  This allows enought play between the outer diameter of the guide rod and inner diameter of the spring coil to allow installation.

My problem with that is the fact that flat coiled springs are supposed to be superior to round coil springs.  I've decided to live with the factory setup and purchase more CZ factory recoil springs as spares.

A must is the dropped/off-set  Blade Tech from Angus.

next, you need new sights; the stock sights plain suck & fact is, every time I fire any gun, I spend my time staring at only one part of it - the sights.  Get the Angus competition sights.

Good mags are a must! You don't need the factory 18s since you are only allowed to load 10 (unless you compete outside the USA) - but insist on the Mec Gars for CZ that DO NOT HAVE the indents near the baseplate.

The rubber coated baseplates are required - which you will understand after the 1st time you take a chunk out of your palm doing a reload with the metal baseplate!

The factory mainspring or hammerspring is way too heavy - use a Wolf 15 instead. And recoil spring? No more than 11 or 12 pounds.  Add some skate tape & 147s @ 128 to 130 PF & you are ready to shoot!

D.C. Johnson

Can the sights be installed by myself as well as the mainspring?

RE Recoils rods.
I read in  few places about the difficulty of using after market solid rods.
You can use them but the bottom of the barrel need to be modified to accept the solid rods similar to the CZ 75 40.
Angus Duhhhh!
