confusion on the SP-01
« on: January 11, 2006, 12:54:16 PM »
Hello all. First post here. not new to firearms, new to CZ. i'm really interested in a SP-01 but i'm confused between the 2 models (tactical and non). according to www.czub.cz/ the non tactical has an ambi safety AND decocker, while the tactical has decocker only. is this correct?

i'm looking to get this gun and possibly carrying it for duty, but we're not allowed to carry cocked and locked so that leans me towards the tactical. however, if the non tactical safety lever can also decock the pistol then i'd get that one.

my local dealer quoted me 499 for non tactical and 525 for the tactical. are these good prices or should they be the same for both models? anyone recommend a dealer in NC?

thanks in advance
Neil

The SP01 version with the manual safety does not have a decocking mechanism like the SP01 tactical. It can be decocked manually by slowly lowering the hammer.

The prices I have seen for the SP01 (both versions) is about $525.

Hi  Neil,

Ed's Gun shop in Vass, NC is the lowest priced in the state
on CZ's I have found so far. $479.95

www.edsgunshop.com

When you call, speak with Ed himself, or Carlos.

I am waiting on mine, tactical style.

Hyatt's in Charlotte handles quite a few CZ's as well,

however he does not have a shipment yet either.(as of today.)

Thanks for the replies :D

I think the reason for the confusion is because the CZ website i listed shows the standard (is that the right word?) SP-01, in the technical info at the bottom of the page as having a manual safety as well as a decocker.

Since i cant carry cocked and locked, and i really dont want to thumb down the safety, the tactical version is the model i want.

i figured Ed's would have the best prices around. I've dealt with him for years and always suggest my friends to shop there. even though its more than an hour drive for me, its worth it.  the dealer i mentioned earlier is much closer, in mebane. I wonder why he quoted me 2 different prices on the models.
I wont be buying the gun for a few months so a wait is no biggie for me. So long as CZ doesnt stop importing them before the summer.

Great forum, I hope to learn a lot here.

Neil

I've done business with the gunshop in Mebane.  Nice shot, big selection, but their prices aren't generally impressive.

(We have family in the area, and I'll visit there a couple of times a year.)

I dod not believe there will eb another delivery untill february If I egt more details I will post

Angus, have you been able to design a reversed decocker prototype for the Engineers at CZ ?

When you mean reverse, do you mean functionality similiar to sig 226, or similiar to HK expert ?

 Thanks.

Another question Angus.  When I talked to CZ-USA sales about 2006 SP-01 availibility they told me about a "Shadow" model being considered for later in the year.  Essentially a nicer trigger and sights.  Do you know anything about this?

I'm really serious about getting a SP-01 but may wait if the decocker is redesigned or the Shadow model becomes a reality.

When I say reversed I have produce a one off decoker lever that goes up in the front instead of down at the back AKA the decokers now.
It is a little difficult to use with one hand but was not designed for speed. It was designed so that the strong thumb could rest on the decoker lever without fear of decoking the gun. It works great. It also takes advantage of the IPSC USPSA's rule that states the SA DA must be all the way down but a decoker decock to the point where the factory intended Ie Half Cock makes for a sweet trigger.
I will talk more with CZ UB engineers at the show.

The "Shadow" has been in the pipe more then a year now. I saw the first version at the shot show last year. They just sent a second prototype to us for approval I will see it next week. IF we were to agree on this model if still would take maybe 8 /10 months of CZ UB time to make finished article so don't hold you breath to long.

What will be new for this year will be production of the CZ SP01 as a custom gun. The CZ USA catalogue will offer the CZ Custom as prepared by  myself at the CZ Custom Shop. It will hopefully be widely available, this year. Cost will be around $800.00.
LAter in the year we will offer other enhanced CZ Models, as well as trigger and sight modifications

Run down on Custom SP01
CZ Custom Rear Sight
CZ Fiber Optic Front Sight or Plain Black Blade
CZ Custom Hammer & CZ 15lB Mainspring tuned to hammer
Tuned trigger components approx.
2.5 / 3 lbs (Creep Free) about 6/7lbs double
With Option to have trigger block Removed
Modified Slide Stop
CZ Custom 11 lb and 14 lb. mainspring Included.

All guns test zero and function check before leaving CZ Custom Shop

Any one wishing to order may do so now by email. We have many memebers of this board who already ahve the enhaced version andare very happy.
Since we are Out of stock right now could be as much as 1 month before delivery

Is there a possibility the reversed decocker handle
could be available as a custom piece for sale through
Ghost ?I suppose the connection point from the decocker
rod to lever has to be squared or pinned.

Appreciate the detailed things CZ are doing, and you
taking time to answer questions.

 Best-

Eevrthing is a possibily I just amde the one a s test and it worked the pivot point is not really in the right place and that wuld have to changed, mine was made bu ctting up two saties and cz75SA paddle and the one of the P01 being milled off, then the two peices matted togetehr with aid of tig.
