SP01 rail question

Local shop has a NIB SP01 with man safety for sale. This unit has two cuts in the rail, and I have seen pics of some SP01's with three. Any reason for that?

seems like the newest ones have the three rail cut..

mine has the two rail cuts..

don't know if they have an actual reason or specific model light that it works better with, with the additional cut.

I wonder if the next run of SP-01s will have 3 rail cuts to lower the weight? Might stop the carping about competition rules etc.

Mine has 3, I havn't seen the ones woth the 2 cuts in person just pictures, I wonder what the cutoff date was.  My target says 8/30/05.
