Over the years
« on: February 17, 2015, 10:10:35 AM »
I have owned so many handguns that I should be an expert on what to do and what not to do. Being a young and relatively poor person, I traded a lot of my guns for different guns...I made a lot of mistakes. I have owned a Hi-Standard Sentinel 9 shot revolver, a Hi=Standard Victor,a Hi-Standard Supermatic, Colt Match Target, Colt Combat Commander, a pair of Colt Diamondbacks .22 and .38 special, Smith and Wesson K-22 and Model 19, Browning Hi-power, Ruger Security Six, Ruger Mk III, GSG 1911-22, .45/410 derringer, and probably a few more. I now own a Taurus 9 shot SS revolver, Taurus Tracker .357, S&W 637, a new Ruger LCRX(Crimson Trace on order), and my personal favorite a S&W Model 39-2. I also have a new CZ RAMI 2075BD on order. Lesson learned....it seems that I have traded a lot of really nice firearms that have become collectors pieces. This is just the hand guns I've been through and own several nice long guns as well. Can't wait to get my RAMI.
I will defend to the death the rights of my family and myself. Please don't make me use all of my ammo.

My son has done similarly.  Started with a Glock 19, S&W 642 and Glock 30.  He ended up selling the Glocks and buying some nice handguns and going throgh some trades with those guns.  So, like you, he was fortunate to be able to own lots of different handguns without buying them all.  I followed his lead recently when I bought a 7.65 mm W. German Walther PPK/S.  I owned it about a month before selling it.  It was a blast  to shoot.

I too have owned many Firearm over the years, but (in all these year) I have only sold 3
A Ruger Security Six, a Star, Firestar 9mm and a Marlin 39 Mountie
I have always regreted selling the Ruger   :-[
Have thought (at times) that I should have held on to the Star, but I did sell it to fund my first CZ purchase    ;)
And oh, the Mountie ?
Well, it was sold to buy and even nicer Mountie    8)

"Remorse City" here! I empathize with you.

I completed a list of my sold or traded guns over the last 21 years (1994 was my first gun S&W 66 2 1/2") and realize I would have a small fortune by now.

I am older now so I've accrued 21 years of trades and sales to pay off bills etc? I am not going to do that any longer. I did not sell any of present guns to buy my new CZ 75b! I now have at present a collection of 10 guns and growing!

Here is the list I compiled but I may remember more! Cannot remember why I got rid of all of them.

Berretta blued 21a

J.M. & J., that's a lot of Guns sold over the course of only 21 years   :o

And you reminded me;
I did own a 4.5" S&W 686P for about a month
Never shot it and sold it for more than I paid for it
Sold it to buy the Ruger SP101 in .327FM

Well I've learned from reflecting on my past impulses that what is common and mondane today may be an item of demand later.  Take for instance those S&W model 66 2/ 1/2 inchers.  I do not remember what I bought and sold them for but today a good specimen will command what?   $600.00?  $650.00?  How about the folded slide West German K-Kote? I paid $500.00 for that I think back in approx 1996 97??? That is a rare gun and in great condition could command close to $1000.00 now.

So what may be a common gun now may become a future coveted version hard to get just because a gun manufacturer may decide in some corporate meeting to change a spec to accommodate some state regulation.

So Keep what you have.  Save for what you want.

I had a Browning Buckmark and a S&W Highway Patrolman that I had to sell to pay some bills. Sold them to family, the Browning ended up traded off. When I had a chance, I bought back the Smith. I don't shoot it much but I'm never letting it go again.

You certainly have been down the road.  The High Standard Sentinal was my first handgun.
