Steel Guide rod will not work with stock spring
« on: October 23, 2005, 07:39:54 PM »
I just fabricated a steel guide rod for my SP-01 and they will not get past the bottom of the barrel with the stock spring. If used with a Wolff spring they will fit but it is very close.  The plastic rod bends to get past the bottom of the barrel with the stock spring.  I much prefer the flat wire spring as they have a much longer life to then if properly produced.  I will try to make a 2 piece steel guide rod but the diameter will have to be slightly larger which is not problem as the guide rod hole is large enough to accommodate a larger guide rod.

I am doing this just to see how it works/ for fun.  The plastic guide rod has not given me any problems and I do not see how it could since it is a stress free part once the gun is assembled.

The flat spring has a very narrow inside diameter..and the SP01 polymer guide rod is needed to flex.

The two steel FLGR that I have for my SP01s only work with the Wolffe recoil spring as there is room to move around and get the rod to fit.
oh yeah...no problems with my polymer ones either..I just like goofing around with different things..

Jim..thanks for your experimenting..Its great to see different people work up things for these great guns..

ever thought magwell???? can't use one in USPSA production..but sure would want to play with one...

:D :D
