SP-01 and guide rods
« on: October 14, 2005, 04:13:15 AM »
I got my SP-01 yesterday.  bleep she's beautiful!  The slide rails run all the to the end of the dust cover.  That's impressive to me.

I'm not impressed with the plastic guide rod however.  Does anyone know if a steel version is available?

Thanks,

JackAsh Custom was making some prototypes awhile ago..never heard if they were in production or not..

I have one of those  as well as tried the 75b steel guide rod..

might try emailing or calling them.

Does the CZ-75 guide rod work with the SP-01, assuming one uses the round coil springs?

gunfighter,

congrats on your new toy...

If it's the Custom, how is the trigger - in SA?  Crisp Break? Minimal Creep? Takeup distance? Overtravel?

What you think about the sight picture?

Please share.  We like to know - you know!

Thx,
B9

Thanks, I'm really happy with the SP-01.  CZ has taken the great 75 series and made it even better. The subtle improvements like the flashlight ready dust cover and improved control via the frame checkering have answered the requests of many CZ shooters.

I didn't get the custom job so I can't speak to Angus's work.  I will say there is nothing custom about the factory trigger I received.  As creepy and loose as they come!

I'm actually converting mine to SA using an older alloy Champion trigger.  I little spit and polish on the sear and trigger bar and she'll be much improved.

The sight picture is the same as the current 75 series.  Same three-dot sights, although I noticed CZ added a set screw to the rear sight.  I thought the SP-01 came with improved night sights, but not true on my version.  No matter, they'll be coming off soon to make room for Angus's set.

All in all, I'm giddy as a kid at Christmas with this baby! The balance of the SP-01 feels so much better to me.  I still can't get over the full length slide rails.  I have yet to see a handgun with that much surface contact.  And it has paid off . . . I know she'll break in a bit, but right now the slide to frame fit of my pistol is arguably very, very close to "Kimber tight".

I hope to shoot it soon, but right now I'm content just staring at it and rubbing it with a clean diaper!

SP-01 - Two thumbs up from this amateur, and I have a second one already in lay-away!

My first SP01 has Angus's work..

the SA is nice and crisp..I think it breaks about 3 pounds..takeup is pretty minimal..there is movement as it still is a DA/SA trigger...the overtravel is just enough. The DA stroke is also nice and smooth...no grit or feeling of the spring stacking..it s very nicely done.

the sights are great too...I tried both the FO sight and the plain black..I shoot the plain black better..it is nice and clear..It is the width that I like and I also serrate the front blade.. The rear sight gives a nice clean view..similar to a Heinie or Competition Novak..

I fabricated a steel guide rod last night to the same specs as the plastic one and it will not fit in the gun with the flat wire spring but will work if you use Wolff springs. I prefer the flat wire springs as they last much longer if properly made. ISMI makes the best springs on the market but only for a few guns.  I will be discussing with them the possibility to manufacture their shot peened flat wire spring for the CZ SP-01 and other CZ models.
However I will be producing a 2 piece steel recoil guide rod of a slightly larger diameter and see how it works.  IMHO the plastic guide rod works just fine and is not under any real stress and should suffice, I guess I just want to see the difference between the two and I do like steel in a steel gun.

I have the CZ steel giude rod in both my Spo1 I got them from CZ direct. Not sure what model they were for I thinkt he 40 S&W.
Their is no problem with the polymer guide rod it is just looks and tastes the team guys have been running the polymers with no ill effect like jim says no stress anyway.
I prefer the coil spring and change to a lighter spring I run 11lbs spring but I do shoot minor ammo. I prefer the gun  not to slam shut
Angus Duhhhh!
