The guys using the red dot sights on the Glocks say they use the iron sights as an aid in acquiring the red dot. They aren't taking time to line up the front/rear sights with the target, but using the front sight post as a way of locating that red dot faster.
I would think so. I have only limited experience with a pistol RMR that I tried once, but everyone I have talked to says there is a bit of a learning curve in acquiring the red dot.
I found it somewhat challenging to quickly find the dot, but I think this can be overcome with training. My aging eyes are giving me fits and this may be the only practical option...
Just takes some dryfire.
best is to keep both eyes open, bring sight into field of vision.
you are not trying to look through anything, just trying to get the muscle memory right for you hands to bring the pistol to the proper height for sight alignment. You have years of memory of the top of the gun being proper sight alignment. you now have to account for a different height.
takes many reps to undo years of training.
once you aquire, the red dot is awesome.
