Magazine issues
« on: June 04, 2015, 07:37:59 PM »
Purchased a well-used 75B from a friend. He had two magazines, both with metal bottom plates. Neither will hold the slide back after last round and one falls out of the gun after a round or two is fired. I can't see the difference in the two but there obviously is one.

Thoughts?

Welcome to the Forum Cknpro
You may have the wrong Mags for your CZ if they are not being held by the Mag Release
OR, you have a bad Mag Release
If the Followers don't rise all the way to the top, the Mag Springs may be bad
If they do come to full height, try the Mags in the Frame without the Upper mounted but with the Slide Stop inserted
See if the Mag's Follower lifts the Slide Stop
If not, you my have a Slide Stop issues
Without seeing the Mags, it's hard to give other ideas
So tell me again how Trump was worse then the 8 years before .... AND what's coming after HIM !

I'm thinking wrong mags too. I'll dig further per your recommendations and get back.
Thanks

While I'm thinking about it - besides OEM mags from CZ, what are the best replacements with economy in mind? I know, best and economy are mutually exclusive, but you know what I mean. [emoji6]

Yes MecGar is (I believe) who manufactures the CZ OEM Mags
(From what I've heard) you should steer clear of ProMags

I had some used mags with some really goofy followers in them, I replace with factory followers from CZC, no more issues. About the magazine that wont stay latched in? You'll have to investigate that one...

MecGar is the way to go!

So it looks like these are not OEM mags or even CZ specific. The follower does not engage the slide stop at all and it is not a wear issue, the followers are just not made so that they could engage it. I'm thinking I could probably get a CZ follower and upgrade the one that stays in the gun. I checked the other on every way possible with calipers and I found that it is .025" narrower in the area at and above the catch slot. That small discrepancy obviously is enough when combined with non-CZ mag to make it a problem.  The question now is whether I can get a CZ follower from anywhere but CZ so that I can order a Mec-Gar mag at the same time to combine shipping. Maybe Midway or Brownell? Or just bite the bullet and get OEM from CZ.

Thanks for the help gents!

I'd not throw good money after bad w/ those magazines. Just order a couple of Mec-gars from Greg Cote & start fresh.

As I look closer at this situation, I wonder if even a new CZ follower would solve this issue. The magazine itself may not allow for the proper follower. It looks like the magazine is too narrow at the top to allow for a wide enough follower that would engage the slide stop. It doesn't look like the slide stop is damaged. I would expect it would take something much more serious than plastic follower wearing to damage the metal slide stop and there is no evidence of such an insult. I think I will procure a couple new M-G mags and see how they compare overall before I fool with changing out the follower on this one magazine. It may just end up being a range mag anyway, and therefor only a minor inconvenience as is.

I was writing this when Old Schoolr replied -  seems great old school minds think alike!   ;)

From your photo, it appears to be the follower on an older CZ mag for the pre-B models. They usually do not lock the slide back on the B models. You can see the re-designed "B" follower on the two newer mags to the left versus that on the pre-B mag on the far right here. Those mags might be useful for someone with a pre-B as long as the rest of the magazine is correct (see second photo) and they function properly or can be made so.

I believe you may be exactly correct. The follower does look like the one you posted. Witness holes are the same, etc. Probably explains the one the falls out. I have read where you have to do some filing to make a B mag fit in a pre-B well - that would explain it. Both of these would probably fit high and tight in a pre-B gun.  Thanks Psyop!

So...anybody interested in some Pre-B mags?  $20 each  ;)

Two new M-G mags from Greg and the 75B runs like a charm.

So....where do I sell these two pre-B mags?

If they are 15 round magazines, you would get some karma points if you were to find a poor unfortunate soul living in New Jersey in need of them.
