Nikon P series scopes
« on: June 06, 2015, 07:13:54 PM »
Has anyone tried the Nikon P series Rimfire scopes with the turrets or the BDC reticle?

What's folks' general thoughts on those two options in any brand for long range shootings- turrets or BDC's? How accurate are they for 100+ yards?
Up until this year, the highest mag. scope I've had was a Leupold 2-7. Now I've got a Nikon PS in 3-9 with BDC. It's clear but I've not used it in the woods. I'm not sure I will like all that stuff going on in the sight picture yet.
I've used 1-4 and 4x on .22?s but now I've got this 452, it begs for some long range shooting and my aging eyes may be a limitation.
Thought?

I just got a Nikon 3x9 Prostaff BDC for my Ruger. I ordered a rimfire but they said no more. It is fine, as the BDC dots (circles) will take you a long way! Use their website for bullet drop data. Works a charm, and a great scope for the money, hard to beat!

i p/u a couple Pro series scopes to try out on a recommendation from a friend that has switched to Nikons.

They aren't that bad and i like the side focus features.  i got one of the fine dot and one nikon cross hairs.  I only got a chance to sight them in but i think for what i want to do they will work fine.

I have a P rimfire 2-7 on my 452 Trainer.  Great scope!  I bought it from Midway when they had them on sale for $99 and free shipping.  That was 2 or 3 years ago.  I got the regular plex reticle.  Works great out to 100 yards, even though it is not enough magnification.

I'm using the 3-9x Prostaff Rimfire with BDC reticle on my 455 American Synthetic.  I would highly recommend.  It's a tremendous value for the money.

I have 2 Nikon Pro Staff 3-9 rim fire BDC's. They are mounted on my CPC modified 10/22's. For cost vs quality I don't think you could find anything better. My range I use the most is 100 yards and the
3-9 is perfect for 100 yards. If I was wanting to go much further I would probably go for something more than the 3-9. I have a Redfield Battlezone TAC 22 RF 2-7X34 on my CZ 455 Lux. It was on sale and I wanted to go with the smaller 34mm due to the rear sights on the Lux. The 2-7 is OK for the 100 yard range but I like the Nikon ProStaff a bit more.

I like the BDC but I don't use Nikons online trajectory info. It normally only takes a few RNDs to get the BDC correct. I normally zero them (22 LR) at 25 yards. The biggest difference in getting any 22 RF IMO is the different velocities. 22 LR ammo is pretty tricky though not just in the velocities but also by manufacture. For more precise target shooting SV is my go to and normally SK std + or CCI SV but I also notice a difference in the same velocity by ammo manufactures.

I also have a P223 Nikon 3-9 BDC for my AR. It is great for 100 yards also. Both models are excellent at holding zero. After a winter that all 3 of the above mentioned firearms were completely stripped, cleaned and lubed other than a click here and there they were pretty much still holding zero when I remounted the scopes at the range.

They have been excellent for me. For use at a 100 yard range they are perfect for me. If I was going much farther I would want more magnification but that is my eyesight more than the optic.

Kolholznik, what rings are you using on your rifle?

I recently bought a 455 american and I have my eye on that scope, but would like to take the guess work out of finding rings.

Do you have any issues with your bolt clearance or having to lift your head off of your cheek rest to get a clear sight picture?

Thanks

I've got the Rimfire 3-9x on a 1022 target rifle I put together and IMO you can't find a better or clearer/brighter scope for the money but YMMV of course.

Pony Danza - your inquiry about rings

I mounted Nikon Prostaf 3-9/40 Target EFR (almost identical to the BDC) on 455 American with BKL rings, model BKL-257-MB. $25 on Amazon including shipping, and no issues with bolt clearance, and the rings look good too.
