Is the CGW sear a must?
« on: July 10, 2015, 10:05:13 AM »
I just ordered the czc competition wide hammer for my sp01 shadow as my last mod.  Is the CGW sear a must have or am I better off just fitting the safety?  I've seen the threads on how to do it and I'm just not sure what route to go...

Cgw sear is almost drop in and you also get sear that is much harder than factory part., i would rather go that route

The only thing that worries me is the spacer you need...wasn't made for the shadow originally

I have one in my 75 shadow and my Tactical Sport.  Both with a spacer.   Both work just fine with no issues

I have done conversions with both the CZ Custom hammer and CGW hammer.  I will say that for the amount of time you will spend fitting the safety: disassembling and reassembling and test fitting, rinse, lather, and repeat... you are better off time wise doing the CGW sear.

Your making a really good point...but on the other hand I love that stuff (gf calls me a gun dork).  I just wish I knew exactly how much i need to take of the safety leg.  Also saves me 40 bucks or so.  If I mess it up somehow I'll buy the CGW sear lol.  I don't mean to sound ignorant James and thanks for your advice though

I agree completely with JamesloveJammie.
I fitted the safety for my wifes RAMI, I think I spent as much or more time fitting the safety as I did with all the polishing I did for the action.
That is why every gun I build now has the CGW sear, it is just so simple.
When I fitted it I was so worried that I would overshoot the removal that I removed too little and it was in and out about a dozen times.
CGW sear snug the allen until it is making contact back out a tiny amount locktite it done.

Nate,  the CGW Sear IS a time and frustration saver for sure.
You'll never look back for any future sears if you go with CGW's.

While waiting for the sear to come in I installed the new czc competition hammer... The original sear worked perfectly with the safety.  Safety can only be applied when the hammer is fully cocked.  Not sure how it happened that way but I can say I was lucky.  More crisp SA then the shadow hammer.  To be honest it's not worth the money for the difference it made.  But on the bright side I have a full replacement for when those wear out

CZ Shadow hammers are better than the standard CZ hammer from what I have experienced.
My wifes RAMI has a shadow hammer in it, thanks to another Nate I know and it is a very clean trigger.

That said, I really like the competition hammers whether from CZC or CGW both asre excellent products.

Glad the sear worked well with the hammer without adjusting the sear, that is a blessing.
