New CZ P09. owner with a couple questions.
« on: July 12, 2015, 02:48:57 PM »
Been lurking awhile soaking up some CZ knowledge. I have a CZ P09 that came with a cgw ss guide rod and a 15# recoil spring. The gun is primarily my night stand gun and i plan too carry it during the winter months.

Based on that criteria, do i just use the stock recoil assembly? Can i disassemble the factory rod and use the factory spring on the cgw rod? I carry 124  grain pdx1 +p.

I am leaning towards the factory parts, but wanted to see what you guys recommend.

You can do that.  I did disassembled the factory recoil spring/guide rod.  I carefully took the screw off (red locktite).  I have no problem using it without the screw.  Now As far as PDX +P ammo, I recommend use the stock spring (20#) because as the P09 was designed to be a service pistol using NATO loads.

My factory captured recoil rod assembly users a plastic rod. There is no screw.

I would like to use the cgw SS guide rod if i can.

If the factory spring is recommended can i use it with the cgw SS guide rod?

I used the factory spring with the CGW SS guiderod while breaking in my P09. Not a problem.

I have since switched it out for the CGW 18lb recoil spring.  ;)

Plastic guide rod?

Both my P09's have steel guide rods.  Dull dark finish.  Parkerized??  Melonite??  Some other surface treatment??   One is a 9MM the other a .40 S&W.

Don't know if they are different springs weights but my P07 and P09 recoil springs have the same number of coils in them (maybe why everyone says the P07's are hard to rack the slide on).

I understand the feelings about plastic guide rods.  All of us have seen plastic break far to often.  As far as I know, the P07's still have plastic guide rods.  Old, or new, models.

Stronger ammo equals more recoil force therefore the need for a heavier recoil spring to reduce wear on the rest of the pistol.

My older P07 came with a "non-captured" recoil spring.  Kind of aggravating during disassembly and reassembly.  I changed that.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

My factory captured recoil rod assembly users a plastic rod. There is no screw.

It's not a screw it's more like a bolt. It can be unscrewed at the muzzle end to remove the recoil spring.

Would i just grab it with pliers? There are no flats or a hex.

The "born on date" is 6.2.2015 which i assume is February sixth?

Yes, Probably. It probably has some locktite on it so a heat gun or hair dryer to apply a little heat will probably help.

My new P-09 dated 5-21-2015 has a steel rod.

That looks like the end of a P07 guide rod.

I don't know much about CZs (yet) but a P 07 guide rod wouldn't work in a P 09 right?

I assume they would be different lengths.

I went ahead and removed the stock recoil spring and am using it on the CGW SS guide rod.

Now I'm curious about this plastic guide rod situation since someone appears to have guns made before and after mine with steel guide rods... I emailed CZ USA to see what they can tell me.

Would you guys recommend any further CGW parts for a HD gun? I wouldn't mind a lighter DA trigger pull without affecting reliability. This gun needs to work always.

The biggest things that are going to help the DA pull is the CGW spring kit and a bit of your time doing some polishing.

What Raining_Brass said.

In addition to getting the self defense SPGK79 spring kit I would also invest in the extended firing pin 61040 and the 61100 firing pin retaining pin.

Note: you cannot use the extended firing pin with the stock 20lb hammer spring.
