I may have sinned......?
« on: August 09, 2015, 10:37:20 PM »
I picked up a couple new rimfire rifles this month.  Not CZ's though!   First was a 46 yr old Belgium Browning T2 (not a salt stock) , NOS in box, never fired, all the little parts and the wax paper wrap still on it.....I debated for one day and decided to make it a shooter.  I am too old to just leave nice rifles in the safe.   See pic and its first target...25yds ...blade sight.  It shot pretty well...even compared to my CZ UL.  With only 50 rds thru its barrel it is bound to get better.  It is really a wonderfully made and lovely little rifle....less than 5 lbs......that t-bolt is different....if had been a lefty it would have been 'more' than perfect. I will mount the nifty peep that comes with it soon.

The other is a very nice , almost mint 23 yr old Browning made in Japan reproduction rifle of the Winchester 52C......Had followed it on Gunbroker for many months where it never reached reserve price.....and finally I called the shop with a much lower offer and they took it!  Holy cripes is it accurate....even with its trigger at 7 lbs.  It loved Geco at 25 yds....5 in one hole and did OK with the Wolf at 50 yds.  I put some cheap rings and an old Bushnell scope on it and shot these targets this weekend.......Very well made with some nice custom features.  I already love it and it seems as accurate as my CZ American, which is my most accurate 22 rifle.

I will have to say I am impressed with these Brownings.  Sadly they and the CZ's certainly outshine any US made 22 rifles I own....only my older Marlin 39's are very close in quality.  I cannot afford a vintage Winchester 52 series gun.....$4k and more.
Nor are a Kimber or Cooper in my future.

Shooting with my kids and grandkids....that is a fine time.

A nice rifle is a nice rifle.

We'll let you slide. Congrats.
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

Very nice!

I also have to admit that my last .22 rifle is a mid 80's LH annie I found local for a decent price.  With a little trigger tuning, I hate to admit that I think I like it a little more than my LH 452 with timney!  They are very close however.

Good rifles, mate. Congratulations.

YUP, YOU SURE DID. Youre goin to hell for sure.  ;)

Nice find & nice shooting.

I don't care what the name brand says if they will hold nice groups like that. One of the most accurate 22 mags I've ever seen was my Grandpaps, and say's  Sears & Roebuck.  I tried for over 30 years to get another 22 mag that would shoot like that one does. It took a CZ 455 varmint before I quit looking.  ;D

One of the best 22lr's that Ive ever seen was a marlin 880 SS. I bought 2 as a set for me & our youngest about 20 + years ago. His is an absolute tack driver, mine wasn't worth a hoot.  I have always had the theory that if you bought 20 of the same rifles, 1 would out shoot the rest. Sometimes you get lucky.

I recently found a nice Winchester 52b at Cabela's for a decent price...yes!, a decent price at a Cabela's.....I had to dicker some but was surprised to get a good price.  It is the same age as me...66 and shoots very well.  Interesting that it did not like the Tenex...thank God!

This is just 25 yds but at 50 it is almost as accurate.  Only rifle I own that holds it own with this old Winchester .22 is my CZ 452 American, but I think my 452 Ultra Lux with a scope would be equal as well.

I remember a guy in my old smallbore club who shot in Master Grade and used Winchester Premium .22 target ammunition because it shot better than any of the Eley ammunition in his Anschutz. He was happy both ways, achievement and financially.
