CZ P01 Duo Tone?
« on: October 24, 2015, 01:28:37 PM »
Was at the local gun show today, the same one I picked up my 75 Compact Duo Tone at last year, and a guy had a used P01 in Duo Tone. Naturally i bought it. I didn't realize the P01 came in Duo Tone. How rare is that?

(I will try and get some pics later).
Czech it out!

I don't know if CZ ever produced a two tone PO1 or not, the picture indicates to me a pistol that has been refinished, either in ceracoat, or perhaps it was re-anodized as such. I doubt very much that its been hard chromed, as that doesn't work well at all with aluminum alloy frames!

For a minute duo tone was an option on a bunch of pistols... I have a duo tone compact and I have definitely seen SP01 shadows with it... Why not P01?  It's likely the same satin nickel paint used on the others with a matte blue slide.

I can verify the duo-tone P01 is a factory job- I have the original box it came in and it shows it as a "CZ 75 P-01 cal. 9mm LUGER Dual Tone, 2/14 RD MAGS #91195." The printed NSN number is also shown over the silver paint, as is the CZ lettering. That's why I'm stumped about this particular unit. The 91194 is the PCR, with the 91199 being the standard P01. Apparently there also was a 91198 that was olive green and is rare as well.

Upon further digging, it's a Gander Mountain exclusive pistol that was made in 2006 only. P01's were done in this finish and sold exclusively through the Gander Mountain stores for a very short time. There is an old thread here that claims they were painted after production:
http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=1618.0
However, upon disassembling mine, there was never any black paint on the frame only the silver paint is on the frame- leading me to believe it was originally painted in the cerakote type paint by CZ for Gander Mountain. And how else would the NSN number and CZ, Kansas City writing still be present and matches the two other duo tone pistols I own? I would imagine that lettering would not be present anymore if it was painted by Gander Mountain. I emailed CZ to see if they could give my any further input on this pistol.

The PCR has obviously had its frame nickle plated, the other two are either hard chromed, or anodized to appear as hard chromed, nickle plating is not white!

All of them are factory from CZ- I have the original boxes showing they are duo-tone. None of them are white or chrome, they are all silver paint/durakote. I'm not sure why the 75 Compact is a bit more bronze in tone, but I've seen other 75 Compacts that have the same shade.

Just heard from a CZ rep. on the P01- it IS factory and was a very small production run that was imported to the US in limited quantity.
