I am on the fence
« on: November 04, 2015, 05:29:01 PM »
I recently joined club97 and I have made a few range trips. The gun is plenty accurate but I just don't the same warm and fuzzy feelings I get with the 75. I guess I just can not man up to the big bore.

How much experience do you have shooting other .45 guns?  If you haven't shot much, you might not have a good context for what a pleasure the 97B is, even more so if you have one that's had CGW surgery.

Try a set of the CZ Factory Rubber grips. In my opinion, the feel and control is much better than the thin aluminum grip (although they sure are purty  ;D ).

What is it that you don't like?
Too much recoil?
Trigger?
Feel in your hand?

I have had my 97BDE for over a year know and I understand some, my find it a little tuff to warm up to. My experience is that it is heavy, hard for me to get my hands comfertably around it, and it is my favorite gun. I still am amazed at the power of the .45 ,combined with the accuracy of the gun and I just love to shoot it. It is a strange contrast to my PCR wich fits in my hand perfect, minimal recoil, lite and easy to control, and does not have the accuracy or as much enjoyment as my 97BDE. This is really ironic since my PCR is my daily carry and my first CZ.

When it comes down to it, some people just don't get along with the .45, even though it's not a high velocity load.  If you buy ammo off the shelf and shoot through a 5" .45, it can certainly feel like high velocity.  My wife really enjoys my Accu Shadow and P-09.  In fact, she shoots 9mm slow fire better than I do.  However, she's not fond of the 97 at all, and her targets prove it.

Mike hit the nail on the head, I have not had much experience with .45. I own have owned 2 1911s but never got into then either,  the single stack is too thin for me. Which is why I was a little intrigued by the 97, but with the thin grips it doesn't feel that different than the 1911, so I will track down some rubber grips and see what I think, but it will have to make a big difference to it will become trade fodder. FYI I was looking for a SP -01 or shadow when I came across this.

Dowchawg,
I know the feeling.  I have a 1911 in .45 but didn't warm up to it, much preferring the fat double stack grip of a P-226 SIG, then a CZ-75, both in 9mm.  Then a P-09 that shot like a match gun, but I still had to fatten up and ovalize the grip on it.  Next was the 97, in Feb of this year.  I struggled with the flat, thin grips, and even the rubber grips were not that comfortable.  Finally got some fat DaveB grips, modified them slightly, and the grip feels great, the gun feels great, and I finally "like" the 97, after a lot of (expensive) rounds.

It takes a while to get used to the .45 round itself, and to find the combination of grip panels, etc., that works for you.  I am finally there.  I still like a 9mm but I shoot a .45 in bullseye matches now, and I'm very happy with the 97.

Try the Houge grips " wrap around rubber ", they are inexpensive and the 97 will not feel thin. Others have used them and love them. $16.37 on Amazon

I've seen pics, not sure on the fit since they only make them for a 75. Hogues are very thin grips though...

The Hogue 75 grips will fit the 97, just need some stretching.

I took a different route, finding a set of Nill target grips and filing them flush with the magwell.  Amazingly ergonomic.

I took the VZs off my 75, set them on my 97, no way are they remotely close to fitting.... The Hogues must have more material to fill the voids.

+1 on this. Takes a little hairdryer heat and stretching but works great for me. "Normalized" the grip for me so my 75B and 97B feel so much the same now. Instinct shooting has same poi, reason I did it. Practice with cheaper 9mm ammo, SD/HD it's the 45.

It might help you feel better about the 97. Worth the small investment maybe.
