CZ 83 : To Buy or not to buy
« on: November 16, 2015, 03:21:20 AM »
Good day.
I am newly into guns, and a CZ 83 .380 would be my first choice. I really like it, because it fits my hand perfectly and I can shoot it comfortably.

Unfortunately, I found out that this model is already discontinued.

Would there be a problem in availability of parts and maintaining the CZ 83, if I purchase it?

Should I buy it or look for a different model?

Looking forward for your inputs.
Cheers!

Ton of 82 and 83 parts and guns out there so I personally wouldn't worry about it.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

What Larry said. I'm contemplating buying a NIB 83 from Buds. It would be my second, so I'd probably buy a set of springs for on hand backups.

I can still find parts for a 1930's vintage High Standard model B, so wouldn't be too worried.

A new production run of 83's are out there. I'm sure it's only for a limited time.

Parts can be found online or at gun shows. I've had one for years and they are great shooters. There were so many made, and with used 82s showing up for sale periodically, there is no reason to believe that parts will become unavailable. Having said that, If I was in your position I would look at the rami in 9mm. It costs about $100 more than the listed price of the '83, shoots the more powerful and cheaper 9mm and is a great pistol itself.

Thank you all for the advice.  :) I got the CZ 75 B Omega last December with 50% discount. I really would like the CZ 83 for its more classic line (IMHO), unfortunately when I read the legality of our country's law in importing firearm parts, lots of paper works and cash shall be needed to do so. It's cheaper to buy a new CZ83 than import parts of it.  :P

I bought a foreign police CZ 83 in great shape a year or two ago for about $200.  It was a huge bargain and is accurate and reliable.
