P-01 vs SP-01 as Go to gun
« on: December 07, 2015, 10:48:29 AM »
I was just wondering if the P01 was considered more reliable/tougher than a standard CZ-75 or SP-01. I have had Sigs and currantly have a HK that is very reliable but I shoot my CZ-75 and Tristar clone C100 noticeable better. I am thinking of going all CZ. I want a light rail for a home defense so I'm looking at the P01 and the SP-01. I have not handled the P01 but image it would be like the Tristar C100. I have shot a few SP-01 and they are GTG. My main question is the NATO spec PO1 a tougher better, more reliable gun than the SP-01? Thanks for any input.

I own both an SP-01 and a P-02 and along with my P-07 & P-09 I would have no problem attaching a light or laser to the rail and trusting my life with it.

All my CZ's have been ultra reliable and I would say if you are not worried about concealing the gun that bigger sizes are usually a little easier to shoot and more magazine capacity.

The NATO numbering has nothing to do with the quality of the P01. You will find several discussions on the origins of the NATO stocking number.
Enjoy.

Thank you for replying. I was thinking of the extra testing the PO1 went threw mentioned on the CZ web site among other places. I was wanting to know if the P01 was an improvement over the SP01.

Not really. Just depends on if you want full size steel with ambi controls, Or a compact alloy. I own both. I love both. [emoji6]

I agree with the previous posts. Own both and they are both highly dependable.  I suggest that the P01 is somewhat more flexible due to size and lighter weight. So, if you have ccw needs you may find it more practical for that purpose. I do shoot the SP01 a bit better (more accurately,  especially rapid fire) due to its heavier weight and longer sight radius. So if you do not have carry requirements I would lean towards the SP01. However,  you can't really go wrong with either choice in my opinion .

Cheers

As I understand it, which leaves a large margin for error, the P-01 came first; 3 years in development, extensive and elaborate testing for the customer, and then it got an NSN which means not much since the crappy socks I bought at the BX have an NSN. But the testing for the customer that requested it was really what made it what it is. Then the SP-01 was developed after, using much of the design development that came out of the P-01 product development, but the SP-01 was not subjected to the same rigors; its assumed it would be up to it.

FWIW, I only have a P-01 right now, my first CZ (unless you count Baby Eagles) but I've used alot of service duty handguns both professionally and recreationally, and its replaced other more expensive guns as the go-to. I still want a full size all steel, but its not because I feel the P-01 comes up short in any way.

Thank you. I have other guns for carry. I shoot my Tristar CZ clone (compact alloy frame) better than my HK go to gun so I was looking at real CZs with light rails for HD or Open carry (unlikely). I was looking at the P01 because it is the most like my C100 but am starting to look at the SP-01 tactical.

One of my team mates shoots a Cajunized SP-01 Tactical and it is a very nice firearm - I don't think you'd be disappointed.

This is painting with a broad brush, but generally speaking I shoot the fullsize iteration of most guns better than its compact cousin.  Bigger grip, more weight, and longer sight radius is usually why.

Thank you again. I have made my mind up I believe. I will buy the SP-01 tactical.  I don't mind safeties but for a HD gun the decocker will be a better option for me. The only SP-01s locally are in 40 S&W. I prefer 9mm do I will have to order. Thanks again. I will most pics in the SP-01 when I get it. Right now kids Christmas comes 1st.

I'd grab my P-01. I shoot it as well as my SP-01 but I have a 40B slide that I can put on the P-01 as well as a Kadet Kit.  So with the P-01 and a couple extra uppers and mags I have a versatile gun that can handle 3 different calibers.
SP-01 Shadow
P-01 + 40B slide = 40P
Kadet
CZ 83
vz2008
SAR K2 45 X2
and some other "stuff"

When did CZ stop putting night sights on some P01 models? I was looking for a model with night sights and my dealer says P01s only come with regular fixed sights now. That stinks.
