Sphinx subcompact
« on: December 08, 2015, 07:37:27 AM »
I have 2 SP01's that I sent to David at CGW for the full pro-package treatment.  The DA pull is incredibly smooth.  This is my point of comparison. . .

I just got a Sphinx subcompact that I'm going to use for carry and also to shoot IDPA BUG matches with.  The gun is beautiful, fits my hand great, very pointable, and super accurate.  I have only shot about 40 rounds with it so far, and the only thing I'm noticing is that the DA pull is pretty gritty compared to the cajunized SP01's.  I'm wondering, for those of you who also have Sphinx subcompacts, or other Sphinx pistols, whether the DA will eventually smooth out with continuous use? If not, I may just send it to David for a little work.

Thx,  JR

It does smooth out. You probably still want CGWs spring set to reduce DA pull weight.

JR, I received my Sphinx Compact that I intend on shooting in IDPA from David a few weeks ago. I had him polish the action, and install his spring kit.

Prior to sending it to him, I had a 1/4 cock hitch, and could feel the trigger stacking just prior to the break. David eliminated both  issues, and brought my pull weights down on both the DA & SA. Sorry I don't have the numbers right now, but I can post them later if you would like. It is an entirely different trigger though, I would highly recommend sending it to him when he starts taking orders again in January.   Bill

Thanks for sharing your experience.  That's all the convincing I needed -- I'll send it to CGW after the holidays.  Best, JR

As an update, right around the time I was going to send my Sphinx subcompact to David, CGW stopped accepted Sphinx work.  I ended up sending to AA instead, and they did a great job on the trigger -- completely eliminated the stacking and rough action on the DA pull;  the SA was awesome out of the box and is even a little better now.  Turn around was about 10 days.  Anyone wants work done on their Sphinx, I recommend AA.

Sorry.  AA = Automatic Accuracy.  When I emailed Matt Mink at AA he said that they have been doing a lot of Sphinx pistols lately.  Also had the right side decocker shaved down so it would fit in the BUG box -- very nice workmanship.
