Received New CZ83 Today!
« on: December 08, 2015, 06:44:54 PM »
Last Thursday I ordered a new CZ83 from Grab-A-Gun in Coppell TX on Thursday 12/3, and it arrived at my FFL today 12/8.  It was requested of me that when I received it that I report the year of manufacture on the slide, and the date on the included test target.  So, as requested, here goes:

Date on the slide (forward of the ejector port but before the proof marks and serial number = "15".

Date on the test target = "12.10.2015 11:59:15".  (I persume that the date is read October 12, 2015, since today is December 8, 2015!)

As it happened, my FFL is right in the midst of a BATF inspection, and the inspector was at the gun counter looking through the books - the FFL is in a hardware store.  He seemed like a pretty nice guy, and b.s.'d with me a bit while I was filling out my paperwork.  As I was inspecting the pistol, however, I was somewhat taken aback that there appeared to be no serial number on the frame!  I just kept my mouth shut, as I didn't think that it would be a good idea to discuss serial number irregularities with a BATF agent.  Of course, when I got the pistol home and field-stripped it I realized that the serial number visible through the ejector port IS the serial number on the frame!  It had me worried a little, though.

Anyway, it looks like the CZ83 is still in production, and are now being imported again into the U.S.

Congratulations and thanks for the report on the year. Looks like it might have been tested right before lunch break on the 12th of Oct. [emoji1] Post a photo when you the chance.

I have an IWB holster and double mag pouch on order for it from Falco, right next door in Slovakia.  It won't get here until January or so.  In the meantime I went through my dresser drawer full of holsters and found a Dillon leather belt slide for a Smith & Wesson 908 that fits quite well. Also I tried the Don Hume holster that fits my Bersa .380, and it fits like a glove.  It will get me through while I test the pistol with various brands of ammo.

It is interesting (and good) news that the CZ83 is in production again. The .380 model I have was my second CZ purchase. Like its big brother, a Pre-B CZ75, I obtained it at the Rod and Gun Club at Nelligen Barracks outside Stuttgart, Germany, over 25 years ago.

Awesome! Did it come with those grips? The magazine base plate looks quite different from the usual metal one. Congrats.

Seriously, they're starting to build these brand-new again?!  How did I miss that announcement?  Dangitall!  Now I have another entry for my "must-have" list.  Is it just like the ones they used to make, or are they "refreshing" the design like Sig did with their re-introduction of the P225?

I don't think that CZUB ever stopped making the CZ83.  CZUSA just stopped importing them for a while.  As far as I can tell, my new 2015 CZ83 is identical to all of its square-triggerguard .380 predecessors.  The only differences I've been able to detect is some minor variations in the left side slide rollmarks, and in the CIP/N proof stamps.

No, I ordered the grips during CZ's Black Fridays sales.

I had a conversation with the sales associates at the CZUB Prague store a couple years ago. They indicated that production had stopped but it didn't mean that the production means had been discarded and  couldn't be re-started sometime in the future if there was demand. I haven't monitored the CZUB news lately but this 2015 run appeared to have slipped under the radar and didn't have any kind of marketing hype. Here's another big question.....will they also make a 7.65mm batch? [emoji848]

Glad to hear they're still making the 83. There are lighter, smaller, more powerful handguns available these days but the CZ 83 is plain class. The Walther PP series has become extinct as the current offerings produced with modern manufacturing methods are no where close to the original French/German pistols. I too would like to have a 7.65 83 someday. Congratulations on your purchase.

I've been watching GB and seriously considering bidding on one of the 83s listed by CDI. But the thought of a new one that comes with a box and 2 magazines is really appealing. Besides, my experience with Grab A Gun has always been good. You guys are making it hard to save $ and keep peace in the family!  :o  ;D
