Recommendations for VZ2008 rail, ext/ambi mag release, etc
« on: December 09, 2015, 08:49:49 AM »
I'm looking for recommendations for VZ2008 accessories.  Not looking for a big list, just the top choice(s) if possible.  I am having Forced March install a tab on the bolt carrier.  I'm looking for ideas on what is the best option for some of the other things.  I do shoot rifles left handed, so anything with that in mind would be appreciated.

- Extended/Ambi magazine release

- Handguard top rail - I would say on this the BoneSteel top railed hand guard is my top option.  I like the old pictures of the Troy top railed hand guard, but they don't seem to be available.  I'm liking these because they are metal, low profile and have a sleek look.  Not into the Mako.  Will put a read dot on it.

- Muzzle device/Flash hider/Comp - BoneSteel has several as well as several other sites.  Function and good look desired here.

- Ambi safety - does this exist?

- Cheek rest on folding stock - At this point I'm thinking wrapping para cord around the top arm.  Any other options?

Most will say the special forces brake works the best, but is expensive. I have the Slovak brake and I feel it works exactly how it should.
There is an ambi safety somewhere, but I think it only works on certain models

1. Zendl
2. NEA (troy was US stamped version of same)
3. Special Forces if all around, or Zendl comp -- actually quite a few muzzle devices for VZ58 depending on what you want but those are my favorite two all around options
4. Yes, just not a  forward to fire for Czechpoint versions.  VZ2008 require small modification to receiver.
5. AMD tech makes one that Apex sold at one point.  Other options are include various AK ones, and diy ones like pipe insulation and paracord...   Personally, I find paracord by itself is sufficient.

Keep an eye out on Checkpoint -- They are still importing CSA rifles and I would expect a new front end offering someday ...

Is there an affordable alternative to the Zendl extended bolt catch for the U.S.?
I've searched high and low, even airsoft companies and i find nothing. It's
real frustrating.

I'd get someone to make me a 3d printed prototype but i have no dimensions,
specs or CAD drawings to go by.

I got the 3D-printed tactical bolt release off of Shapeways, but I don't recommend it.  The dimensions seem right, but the surface/finish is extremely rough and it binds pretty badly.  I was going to spend some time sanding and fitting it, but the person who recommended it just reported that his has broken.  Not a sturdy product.

Bolt releases are really undersized for what they are/do.  And the variation in that hole in the receiver across different variants (my understanding is that it's a propriety bit size and many manufacturers just use a standard metric bit...) causes pressures on them at angles not originally designed for...  You definitely do not want to skimp on quality here.

I found Shapeways but never saw that part, can you send me a link?

I understand that this part needs to be done right, I'm just in the experimental phase at the moment.

Interesting, the website says this, "Stainless Steel: Bronze-infused stainless steel with visible print lines and rough feel."

This might be the most affordable way to buy this part, if one doesn't mind fine tuning a bit.

I assume a caveat emptor on those printed parts. Fine for testing, but not real use.

There is an outside chance for a group buy on just a TBR (no TMR). I have asked for price and ship date, and I am waiting for them to figure it out.
