Question,

Buying a Scorpion as a pistol, just what can you do to it and keep it a pistol?

A stock and foregrip are understood SBR mods.

I know you can get grips [for an AR] that go on the frame where barrel meets - and covers magwell. I don't think those count toward SBR, right?

A Shockwave blade.

I believe a stock is the only thing that makes it a SBR.

I'll play.  Very happy with where I'm at.  Still needs a charging handle to match the trigger (ahem, shooters element...), hopefully a slimmer handguard when someone develops one, and a boatload of ammo.  Case is Blackhawk Diversion and fits perfectly. SE trigger, HBi spring kit and safety delete, Thordsen cheek stock, PA red dot all in play here.

Yes, the Scorpion is a very fun but expensive tool.

Not exactly.....put a vertical forearm grip on a pistol and you are NFA as a AOW !!

Yea, I found that gem one while looking up if AOW applied to those short-lever-actions.

Imagine going to jail - or losing your stuff, because you moved an AR foregrip to a SP-01 light-rail.

That's scary. Almost like a sleeper way to confiscate all pistols with rails by calling them potential AOWs.
Makes me glad I got a PCR.

Thanks for the info,  do you have a link to that?

Edit: I looked up AOW (Any Other Weapon)
https://www.atf.gov/firearms/firearms-guides-importation-verification-firearms-national-firearms-act-definitions-any

It says "Such term shall not include a pistol or a revolver having a rifled bore."

From Wiki,

The BATFE Firearms Technology Branch has issued opinions that when a pistol (such as an AR-type pistol) is fitted with a vertical fore-grip, it is no longer "designed, made and intended to fire ... when held in one hand," and therefore no longer meets the definition of a pistol. Such a firearm then falls only within the definition of "any other weapon" under the NFA.[9]

The key appears to be when you add a fore-grip, its no longer a "pistol".  The rifled bore issue then is not applicable.

Perhaps the counter argument is that the fore-grip is an "aid" and does not readily nor significantly change the fundamental design of the pistol - it's still a one-handed weapon, which is typically fired with a 2 handed grip. But semantics usually goes to the one who makes the rules.

As always I find the powers that be contradict themselves.

In the link I posted above the ATF shows 7 pictures of AOW's none of which have a foreword grip.
