Help me decipher crazy California DOJ Certified for Sale list...
« on: December 25, 2015, 03:08:57 AM »
Hi CZ Fans and 2ND Amendment supporters!
I'm new to guns, CZ's, and the laws regarding them, so I am hoping that some of you would be kind enough to share you knowledge with me.  Here is my question:
I was looking on the CZ-USA website at the "New/Updates for 2015" section and they have a really cool
CZ P-01 ? Convertible (Omega)
I went directly to the California DOJ website to see if it was on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale list, but the list only has:
CZ 75 P-01 01199 / Steel, Alloy 3.88" 9mm    not the "convertible (Omega)" designation.  Does anyone know if this means it's not legal to buy new here in Cali?
Isn't it crazy how hard it is to be a law abiding citizen in Cali, while still being able to protect my family and enjoy the freedom and protection of the 2ND Amendment?  Do you think any criminals ever ask questions like this on a gun forum?  Haha.  The USA is still the best country in the world, by far!  There's not even a close second!
Thanks in advance for any help or advice you may offer.  And sorry for the rookie question.
Your pal,
jerdog3

The P01 Omega would not be legal in California, unless you are law enforcement.

Thank you Stuart.
It seems so arbitrary to me what is and isn't legal.  So let me ask you a further question; is it true that I can buy a P-01 Omega used, but not new in Cali?  Someone at a gun store told me that. He said the same for a threaded barrel, that as long as it was done legally (before the law was passed or in a state where it is legal) I could buy it used as long as I bought a new barrel for the gun and never put the threaded one in while in Cali.  That doesn't sound right, but most of the gun laws don't sound right either.  Being so new to this I hear a lot of people that sound like they know what they are talking about, and then find out they got it all wrong.
Thanks again.

JD3,
It would appear that you will not (legally) be able to own the P01 OMEGA in California, EVER.
The PO1 Omega is too new to be a pre-ban purchase option in Ca. Therefore there are no "used" P01 Omega that can be sold in Ca.
What are the main features of the P01 Omega that have you hooked?

To buy used, it had to be in California before the law.
as far as I understand no threaded barrel in a gun. You can havas ne the barrel,  but as soon as it is in a gun it becomes an assault weapon.
but I may be misinformed.

Hi BDG,
If I can't own one legally now, I guess I'll have to wait until someone with common sense starts making gun laws.  As to what got me so hooked on this model, well, I guess I'm a sucker for a good sales pitch.  Here is the link to the product description:  http://cz-usa.com/product/cz-p-01-%CF%89-convertible-omega/
And that gun just looks so darn nice!  Oh well, I guess I will have to go for the CZ75 P-01 or the Compact.  Do you know if the Compact has a decocker option?  It doesn't mention anything on the website.

You guys ae great!  I'm so happy I found this fourm!

A freaking assault weapon!?!?  Wow, I just didn't want to make too much noise when shooting metal or paper at the range.  Don't I have to assault someone with a gun for it to be considered an assault weapon instead of a quiet tool?  Insane!  But thank you for clearing that up for me.

I'm rather new to CZs and bought a PCR. The PCR has a decocker and no light rail but otherwise similar to P-01. Mine was from a special run and came with factory meprolite night sights. Not sure if it is on the list as I am in Wisconsin.

I think this is a good post to help with your choices for a compact CZ available in Ca. http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=75591.msg541204#msg541204

Thank you BDG & CCWTRAINER!  I'm really happy I found this community!
Again, I'm so new to guns in general, and CZ's specifically, so I am really surprised to find so many helpful people here and on Youtube.  I thought I'd be dealing with a bunch of really aggressive Ted Nugent types (admittedly, I think he is great to watch when someone challenges his POV ;-).
Thanks again everyone!
