CZ P-01 Convertible!!
« on: January 01, 2016, 03:14:12 PM »
I'm trying very hard to contain my excitement about this. I just checked the CZ website to see if they had pictures of the new gun models up for this year and, surely enough, they do! Contained therein is something I've been wanting to get my hands on for a while: a CZ P-01 "convertible." This allows the user to switch the gun from a decocker to a manual safety and vice versa. Now, I do own a P-02 (the manual safety only version of the P-01) but I've been wanting to get my hands on at least one more (maybe two...this is probably my favorite gun ever).

Now the point... Does anyone know when these bad boys will be hitting store shelves? I can't wait to get one.

If you have a P-02 Omega, it should be basically the same thing; you just need to obtain a decocker level.

I don't want it for the decocker, I want it for the safety. As I stated, I want another compact CZ in this configuration.

Ah, missed that :-)
You should look up the Compact L that Both CZ Custom and CZ-USA had for a short run. It's essentially a P-01 with a safety.

When I can get one of these things, I am going to pick it up to be a pair with my P-02. I don't know if I will carry the P-02 anymore since unicorn horn material and all, and hopefully these will be more common so if it is lost/stolen/confiscated, I can get a replacement fairly easily. I will be putting a set of decocker levers on my P-02 as well so it will be essentially the same gun, just different markings on the slide.
snakeye, no worries, I don't need someone in a leotard. :)

I do understand the unicorn horn material! I almost feel bad for carrying my P-02... Almost.

My plan is to buy two of these P-01 Convertibles and keep my P-02 as a collectible.

I plan on getting one of these and I hope that the decocking lever is backwards compatible with my P-02 and Compact Omega.  The decocking lever provided in the Compact Omega does not fit the P-02 without modification.

Hvae you been able to successfully do this modification? Please share if you have.

Did the compact omega come with a steel or aluminum frame?

What direction is the lever?

Yes!  I'm definitely watching for these to hit the market.

Now if they would just offer them with night sights.  Seriously, what is with the factory sights on some of the CZ pistols?  You're basically forced to do a sight swap with all the compact models, if you want night sights.

It's getting really irritating not having this as an option.

It isn't the direction from the poly omega to the aluminum omega, it is the width of the frame on the aluminum omega that prevents a drop in replacement of the safety on the P-02. I tried doing it and the frame is too wide for the poly decocker to fit.

Aluminum Frame

What direction is the lever?

The lever decocks towards the front like the NEW P-01 Omegas not towards the back like the traditional 75 series pistols.

Correct. The frame is too wide and/or the lever doesn't have enough material removed from the "pivot stem" from the lever itself.  The frame for the Compact Omega is cut slightly different from the P-02.  That's why I hope that the new P-01 levers will fit the P-02 frames.  The left side decocking lever from a P-07 or P-09 works.  As a matter of fact, you can use the right hand safety lever to tie it together and it will decock.  It just looks and feels a bit odd reaching for a decocker and feeling the safety lever.

I contacted CZ about the Omega Convertible and they told me they would be available in Feb or Mar but you could preorder it. I would think it would be the same for this model. You might get it sooner of you preorder as I would think CZ would get it to you quicker than an order for a gun to a dealer just for stock, but I'm only guessing.

I imagine we just preorder them at our regular shops, or is there a special place to do that?
