Only FTF Ii ever had was with CZ-83 in 9mm Mak and Wolf ammo, runs great on Fiocchi and Brown Bear.  Right now, my other CZ-83 in .380 eats a steady diet of MiWall reloads and WWB without hickups.  .

Had the exact same problem with a NIB CZ83 .380, reproduced the problem with several types of ammo, cleaned and recleaned the gun and the mags to no avail, etc.  Happened with both magazines that shipped with the unit.

New mags (under warranty) from CZ greatly reduced the problem, which now only happens once every now and then.  The problem will probably be totally gone once I get around to a new recoil spring.

Was a real bummer as I was sold on the gun's reliability as reported at this forum.  I'm still a believer, but suspect a run of 83's went out with bad magazines.

Does your 83 fling brass into outer space?

Went to the range today.

Fired 40 rounds of Indepencence FMJ - no problems.

Fired 40 rounds of Winchester FNJ - no problems.

Fired 40 rounds of CCI/Speer Gold Dot - it jammed twice on the last round

1st FTF

2nd FTF

It has improved quite a lot ... but I'm still not happy with the 2 jams on the gold dots.

Which is the production year for your CZ ( also check the Hit Pattern Data Chart). Mine is 2003.

Where can I get a new recoil spring ... Wolff does not cater for the CZ83:(

2003 production

Call CZ and they will probably send you a recoil spring or give you a quote on one.

Just offhand I'd attribute the two jams to a dirty gun after firing the previous 80+ rounds, but would still approach CZ with a request for two new magazines since the problem occurs with the last round and not randomly.  Try to get them to throw in a recoil spring (extras will come in handy in the future, I imagine).

My CZ 83 feeds, fires and extracts everything BUT as with any blowback you must keep the mags clean. powder residue builds up in the mag body and drags on the mag spring. Clean them thoroughly and then drylube the insides of the mag body.

Went back to the range today. This time my CZ83 performed flawlessly, i.e. no FTF this time. Used Independence FMJ, Win FMJ  and Rem JHP 88 gr.

The Makarov continues to impress me: 200 hundred rounds and not a single failure.

The 82 and 83 use the same recoil springs -- I went ahead and got the shooting pack with three different strengths so I could decide which I liked (I wound up with the strongest they had, which tames its snappy recoil done at the cost of making it harder to work the slide).

When I've had getting problems it's been the sloppy lips others have mentioned.
