Surplus CZ 82 mags (the real ones with the crossed swords stamped on the bottom, avoid the junk ones marked (CZ-MFG on the bottom) will work on a .380 CZ 83. You have to look for them, but they do show up. I just snagged 4 of them for $100 shipped on eBay, and bought a bunch on gunbroker for around the same price last spring.

My 01FFL dealer cost on new genuine CZ-USA 12-round magazines (10-round magazines are not available at this time from my distributors) for the CZ82/83 is right at $39 each!  When - they are in stock.  Pricey, but they have always worked flawlessly in both my CZ82s and CZ83s.

$40 is the general going rate for new production magazines from CZ.

Your only other option is the surplus mags, which are hard to find and are always going to be used.

There are cheap mags available from Widener's, gunbroker, etc that are marked CZ-MFG on the bottom. These magazines are cheap, but they are not official magazines. They are poorly regarded in general.

Those are not real CZ-UB manufacture. They may be OK for a range toy, but based on the examples I've seen, they can't be trusted when it matters (unlike the expensive CZ-UB magazines).

No - you can just do without.

The only other option for reliable CZ82/83 magazines is by rigorously perusing the "For Sale" forum on this site, as well as checking GunBroker just about EVERY DAY for genuine 'crossed swords' CZ surplus magazines.

Having tried those for the first time today I can verify that they are junk.
Don't waste your money.
I don't think Mec-gar makes CZ 83 magazines.

comparing the not-real-CZ-UB "CZ mfg" magazines to Mec-Gar is like comparing a Fiat to a Ferrari.

edit - maybe Fiat is being too generous. Early 80s Yugo compared to a new Ferrari.
