CZ 1911c grip
« on: February 12, 2016, 06:44:30 PM »
The Materhorn is a niece piece, but just isn't for me. (Price, etc), So I went to bat and decided to make my own....3D Printers rock...

Prototyping is done, on to Machining out of Aluminum and powdercoating! I've got a set of G10 compacts ordered, already have bushings, grip screws, etc here. Just need the my aluminum block milled. Hoping to get that done before spring, got a few too many irons in the fire.

Don't suppose I can buy one from you, can I?  Where can I send you funds?  ;)

I think getting them machined would be crazy expensive, but I could definitely check into the price.

I'm a sucker for 1911 type grips on ar's (all mine are equipped that way). Having that grip on my scorpion would be a dream.  I'd be seriously interested if you wouldn't mind finding a price - no access to a 3d printer here so I rely on other smart people... Thanks.

I'm a sucker for anything 1911, let me see what I can do,  I might be able to figure something out for ya.  If I can,  I'll pm you!

I like the idea! But I'm really not sure how that's going to look on the gun overall with the panels.

Installed the G10 scales, LOVE the way it feels. Might make a few small adjustments, but nothing major. Then, I Just have to get it machined and coated! Might go with a set of red/black grips since the Trigger/Charging handle are red.

Qwkz51 - That is AWESOME! I know that the design/concept is probably not for everyone, but I don't think that matters. I can really appreciate the effort involved in reverse engineering the mating geometry of both the receiver and the 1911 panels, and bringing all of the surfaces together in a design that works for you. I love your attitude and ability to make it happen! Well done!

Thanks HBi, as you can see your products are in full swing on my evo! It has taken several revisions to get it here, but as a designer I enjoy it. Yeah it's not for everyone, but I like that. I'm more than happy to have someone pick up one of toys and say: "i've not seen one of those before"!

I must have... anyway I could talk you out of the CAD file I might know a certain engineering school in my area that might let me utilize their fancy metal 3d printer...

Let me harass the engineers first, but I might take you up on that.

I can respect that. 3D modeling isn't easy I have a fair amount of experience at it from before I left the engineering program I was in. We'll work something out if I can make the connection (those guys love any excuse to print stuff).
