CeeZee Man: Wish that I'd heard from you sooner, as I just bought a blued one from a fellow at Gunbroker.com. I'm still interested in one with the starvel finish, though. What're you wanting for it?

You said Firestar in Starvel.

It is a Firestar *Plus*, isn't it.

(I assume so, as the single-stacks didn't come with "hi caps.")

If still interested the price is $350.00 plus shipping.  Comes with 2 extra hi-cap mags.

The short answer that I usually give is that the PM is yet another PP/PPK derived blowback, while the CZ is more or less a unique design (as so many people pointed out above).

The other 9x18mm pistols that I have seen (FEG and Radom) are all PP/PPK derived as well.
The artist formerly known as FEG...

For this small gun role, I have a Star Firestar M40 in .40S&W.  I love it to bits.  7+1 to start with, and 8 and 10 shot mag followups.  Look for this one, folks.

Yeah, well...  I had one of the Star .40s (the model you mentiond) in nickel,  for a couple of years.

Great gun.  Wonderful trigger.  Very accurate.

But the darned thing weighed more than my mother-in-law!

(The joke at the range, when I shot it there, was that if the gun ever malfunctioned, I could drop it on the bad-guy's foot, and he'd be out of action for a week.)

I always felt it was too heavy for practical concealed carry.

Now, on the other hand, the Star Firestar PLUS (alloy frame, double stack) in .40 is worth a second look.  I've only seen one, but I carry a Star Firestar Plus in 9mm -- but its soon to be replaced by my Compact 75B.

My Star M40 is too heavy.  My CZ70 is too light.  But my Tanfoglio TZ-75 Compact is just right.
