What was year of trigger guard change for CZ 83?

I'm not positive, but here's my best guess.

The CZ 82 (introduced in 1982) was the original service pistol configuration, with round trigger guard (9x18mm only).  Some of the early commercial 9x18 pistols also had the round trigger guard.  The CZ 83 (intro. '83) is the "commerical" version, and my understanding is that the .32 and .380 ACP models always had the square trigger guard.  My best guess is that the earliest CZ 83s in 9x18 were actually CZ 82s marked as 83s for export.  9x18s with square trigger guards probably began production sometime in 1983.

This aught to be interesting then.

I once heard a physicist say that agreement with the Standard Model didn't tell them much.  It was contrary evidence that shed more light on fundamental nature.

So, in that vein, my CZ 83 appears to be a round trigger guard.  By round, it's elliptical, no serration or corner on the front bottom edge like I see on the current CZ website.

It is stamped "95" on the right side frame, which I take to mean 1995.  It's a .380 caliber.  Serial number in the 86xxx

But what your saying is that the squareness appears to be independant of the caliber, and that some legitimate 82's may have leaked into the commercial 83 market.

Will CZ people answer these questions?  I'll give it a try...

As I recall, for the .380 and .32 pistols, the change-over occurred around 1997.  The 9X18 pistols changed over somewhat later; I have one made in 1998, with the round trigger guard.  My suspicion is that the 9X18 pistols were primarily military-contract weapons, differing from the civilian market ones only in finishes, nomenclature stamped/roll-marked in the slide, and a lanyard loop in the butt.  The 9X18s, logically then, would be the last to convert, probably using up previous parts stocks, and also to alloiw for government orders, replacement parts, etc.  My understanding is that the Czech military has converted to the 75 series as thair handgun of issue-anyone else know anything about this??

My CZ83 is a .380, round trigger guard, and was made in 1991.

It also was made before the The Czech Republic and Slovakia split up, since it says made in Czechslovakia.

I apologize for my misleading guess.

It sounds like the switch occurred well after 1992-1993, which would have coincided with the square guard's appearance in the 75/85 series.  (That would have been my next guess.)

It almost sounds like the switch occured when CZ-USA became the exclusive importer, which actually seems logical.
