CZ99 Zastava .22 Rimfire ?
« on: March 06, 2016, 10:30:26 AM »
Does anyone shoot one of these? I know they're not Czech Republic guns, and are made in Serbia, but I wondered if anyone owns and shoots them, and could report if they're satisfied with it? J&G Sales has these for just $189.00 with 2 magazines. I know the stock is crudely finished. But that isn't anything a can of Tru-Oil and a little elbow grease with some 0000 steel wool couldn't cure. I'm more interested in how they function. Pretty hard to find a .22 these days under $200.00, that doesn't have any plastic or Aluminum on it, and is all Walnut and blued steel.

I looked over a J&G sample but decided 1. I didn't need another 22 rifle and 2. I don't have the time (or feel like making the effort) to turn it into a decent gun. It's a prime example of you get what you pay for.

No FHE, but lots of discussion on another forum regarding these. I'm going to pass and stick with the Czech version.

I bought a Zastava CZ99 from J&G sales last year. I wish I would have spent the extra money to get a real CZ.

I read online that they had ejection problems, so I was sure to check that before I left the LGS. That worked okay. I am having problems with loading the magazines though. It goes in at a really odd angle. I think the mag release catch in the chamber is protruding too much and needs to be filed down. Or maybe the magazine needs to be altered. IDK

Once I finally get the magazine inserted, I have a lot of misfires. I constantly have to take the magazine out, cycle the bolt and reinsert to fire another shot. I have never gotten through an entire 5 round magazine without having a misfire.

I read a review of similar problems with the rifle. If you want a project go for it.

I have a friend who has been using one as a bunny rifle and light competition rifle for fifteen years or so. He is very happy with his example. Buy what feels good to you and start shooting it.

I saw one at a Cabela's. It looks okay for an inexpensive rifle. I've also read you could end up with a good rifle or a troubled one. A little over a $100 more will get you into the CZ 455 Trainer price range. I'd probably pass and go onto the CZ 455. Then again you may luck out and get a good one cheap.
