paddle holsters, anybody?
« on: March 14, 2016, 06:37:04 PM »
Except for the occasions where a pocket holster or belly band is appropriate, I've pretty much abandoned IWB carry in favor of OWB covered with shirt, sweater or not.  I like the two slot OWB belt holsters, but find myself too often visiting "no gun" private buildings.  What a pain, trying undo my belt perhaps while while driving to unholster the gun for temporary storage.  No prob for those pocket or belly band days however.

Please share your experiences with either a paddle holster or those OWB rigs with snaps as to how readilly they come on and off the body (perhaps while in a vehicle) and thusly, how well are they holding up?  Thanks!  I'm thinking about such a rig for my future PCR.

I have had paddles and snap-ons and I like the snap-ons better.  I have the CZ PCR Pro Tek1 and use a Nightingale leather holster, Griffin V? Snap on.  It carries it very well.  Just unsnap and it lifts right off.  I also have snap-ons from high noon holsters.  They are very good too.  Custom holsters are the way to go for a perfect fit.

I almost exclusively use a snap on type holster. I have paddle holsters - but they're in the holster box in the basement.

Ha ha -- the holster box (or drawer) of failed experiments.  I actually sold one of them from the box, a comp tac (?) with the only gun I've parted with (not including a scoped rifle I gave to my sister so I could get back my late Dad's lever action without leaving her empty).  Some find these cross-breed style IWB holsters allegedly comfortable despite being 3x the size of the gun inside of it!  Maybe for some, but not for me.

Anyway -- I always envisioned a pancake eventually ripping off the rest of the rig.  For the OWB loop style holsters, I envision the snaps going bad/weak and maybe the assembly dropping off of the hip. . .

Worries about the snaps unwarranted?  I did notice that the nightingale features double snaps for each loop.  Looks like a very nice rig indeed and priced as such.  Hmmmmm?

I use a Comptac paddle holster everyday for my P01. I have to regularly take it on and off for work.  I'll take some pics of it when when I get off.

I have a single paddle holster, a High Noon Speedy Spanky I use for the Glock at work, when I am at range, simply because that's the gun we issue, and that's the type of holster we use...and I cannot STAND Fobus! So I have this one rig I use a few times a year, and I think it's money well spent. Other than that, paddles are to easy to yank out and stick too far out for concealment, for me. Other people have much better luck with them. :)

Metal clips are my preference followed by snap loops followed by direct belt loops.  Ooooops left out paddles AGAIN ;-)  also have at least one in drawer collection.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

The snap ons from TT Gunleather are brilliant.  I've got several and they always hold the gun beautifully tucked into the body.  They are well worth the wait and the cost and are my preferred holster.  I too have trouble getting comfortable carrying IWB.  The paddles are in the #2 holster box.

I use a UBG regulator that has 2 loops that snap on.
I love it, I often visit jobsites where I have to remove my gun and I just reach down
while in the truck pop the 2 snaps and slip the holster in the console.

I have no fear of these snaps weakening and the gun dropping from my side.

BTW, I tried to pull the trigger for a UBG Regulator, wasn't comfortable with the insecure web commerce, but tried to proceed anyway.  Apparently I was only the 3rd REPORT of a problem and they were all from folks "who tried to use a computer" :o  As the veteran owner of the site didn't volunteer to accept a phone order, I thanked him for his service and moved on.

Sometime in OCTOBER I'll expect my Griffon to arrive from NightingaleLeather.  I suppose I'll have to use my Galco Concealable for my full size CZ or UnderWraps Bellyband should my PCR prove worthy for self defense.

I can think of one practical benefit of paddle holsters not shared by even quick attach belt holsters.

If you're woken in the middle of the night, and need to ready yourself in a hurry, you can slide a paddle holster onto your shorts a lot more quickly and easily than putting on a belt.

For regular carry purposes, though, they don't feel quite as secure.

I like to keep more than one type of holster for my carry guns. I use IWB when concealment is most important and OWB when for comfort when concealment is not a problem. I do keep a Fobus paddle holster in my truck so I can quickly arm my self when I'm not carrying.
