That P09 was scary accurate before the red dot. But it was not my every day carry. My P07 .40 S&W is scary accurate and it is my every day carry gun.
I wanted to test out the RMR set up prior to messing with my P07. After that first range trip, I know my P07 is next.
I'll have it set up the same way. Back up iron sights and an RMR. Things go wrong, sometimes. The red dot is the dual illuminated model (fiber optic lights the dots if there's enough light, if not the tritium lights the dot) so there isn't much to go wrong with it, unless it gets damaged somehow. Maybe anything that damages the red dot would also damage the iron sights but maybe it wouldn't.
It makes me feel better to have back up. I carry more than one magazine. I carry more than one knife. On the road I have more than one pistol, more than one rifle. Never needed any of them. Hope I never do.
I ran across some guys at the gun show today who say they can make me a holster to fit that big sucker, light and all. Combination kydex and leather. I'll try the kit I bought first.
So far I've never really been interested in competition shooting. Folks I ran with thought I was a pretty darn good shot, but it was always for fun, or meat/food. I don't think competition would be as much fun, for me.
