Best front and rear grip tape?
« on: March 26, 2016, 05:17:04 PM »
I'm looking for some extra grip on the front and rear grip area of my 75.  Is there a go-to choice?  Perhaps something pre-cut to fit?  I know I can do skateboard tape, but I'm curious to know if there is something else that is specific to CZs

Thanks

If you decid to go with skateboard tape here's a tip. Go swing by a local skate shop and ask if they have any scraps you can have. Last time I did that they gave me some me for free that I've used for bunches of pistols (mine and friends'). You can even just call around and ask if you can have their scraps. Anyways,  I know it isn't the exact answer but hope it helps a little.

Check out Talon Grips. They show pre-cut stick on grips for the CZ's as well as sheet stock to cut your own.

3M safety walk ladder tape. I still have my first roll and it has survived three moves, one flooded apartment, 6 Pistols, several "oops" moments when cutting the roll, and it was only $10.
snakeye, no worries, I don't need someone in a leotard. :)

Thanks, guys.

I'm going to try the Talon Grips option first.

Do I need to get the heavy duty tread or will medium duty suffice?

I'm another 3M Safety Walk user.  A little in the back, a little in the front, and a small rectangle where my weak hand thumb rides the slide.

They are Karl Nill grips made in Germany. I opened up the "magwell" portion of the grips to accommodate CZCustom 140mm basepads.

In 25 years of pistol shooting, I have NEVER had a set of grips fit my hand as well as these grips do.  They are expensive, but worth every penny.

Those are epic! I can't help but think of it as some flowing cloak... Basically you have a Jedi CZ 75.

Which model is that?  The slide doesn't taper down in front of the dust cover like a regular 75

It's a 75B Satin Nickel in .40.  The .40 cal 75B's have the non tapered slide, same as a 75B SAO.  They also have ambi safeties.  I converted it so SAO, removed the firing pin block, polished the internals, and put CZCustom Tactical sights on it.

I don't know... It shoots pretty wicked.   May be a Sith!    O0

I bought some of the GT-5000 tape which should come in this week. I'll let you guys know how it is. I have never used safety tape so I can't compare though.

It seems like the 3m safety tape is really popular. I have only used the skate grip tape I got as scraps and it have been great. Not too rough but lots of grip. Sometimes I have a hard time getting it to wrap around curves with out cutting slits to relieve it and prevent crinkles. For those who use the 3m product does it have this problem as well or is it more malleable? The skate grip tape also has a harder time adhering to surfaces such as the waffling on the Tactical Sport frame and other less than perfectly flat surfaces. I hear some people get some form of grip tape to work on the Tactical Sport. Is this the 3m tape? Thanks for any additional feedback! I didn't think there would be much difference going to 3m but after all the comments I am curious...

If you look at the backstrap in my pics, you can see where it doesn't perfectly conform on the corners.  HOWEVER, it sticks better than anything else I have tried.

What I have found to work best is to clean the area to be taped with non-chlorinated brake cleaner.  This gets off any oil or residue and allows the tape to adhere better to the frame.
