It would obviously involve upping my budget, but what do you guys know about the Iver Johnson Thrasher 1911?

I like Springfields almost as much as I like CZs.
Check out an EMP:

Just did a little searching and reading on the Thrasher. Found this thread on the 1911 forum. Sounds like it has some issues with the recoil spring assembly. Those springfield 9mm 1911's seem to be holding up really well. But they are pricey. I'd go with a shield or another very reliable single stack budget 9mm before risking my life on the Thrasher. Too bad, I wanted to find all good things,  so it would be another great single stack 9mm...

Sad day on the Thrasher, thanks for finding that.  I would love a Springfield, but really can't justify the cost.  I wish they had an XDs with a manual safety, I'd give one a shot.  Springfield Armory's HQ is actually just an hour away from me.  Wouldn't have to worry about getting ahold of then for warranty service, haha.

Big, My buddy has the XDs 4" in 9mm. Having the grip safety and trigger safety is surprisingly comforting as I have used it/borrowed it for a while. The problem? It is the worst trigger I have ever felt, even after polishing the internals and putting in an aftermarket spring kit. maybe he has a lemon because I don't hear quite as much complaining online as I would expect. If that trigger wasn't so terrible I would really be considering saving up for that 4" XDs 9mm.

We had an XDM full size 9mm and with some after market parts the trigger was really nice.  My son used to shoot it in IDPA until he tried a shadow, then the XDM got traded off.  I had an XDS .45 for a while and I agree the trigger was atrocious.

Find one of the 15-20 Remington 9mm R-51s that works as advertised and you'll have the closest to perfect single stack for "shooting" AND carry .  Mine was a mess,  but the size, balance, lack of felt recoil and accuracy was superior. O0.   It truly was a great pistol if there had been any QC at all for the machining processes.

Kahr makes good ones. Bersa BP9 feels better in hand to me than most

I find the thumb safety highly overrated.  I love the S&W 39 series.  It was a slim cc pistol decades ahead of its time.  I would own one, but I abhor the slide mounted safety.  As mentioned, it operates reverse of the 1911/CZ75 style frame mounted safety (one of the reasons I tried CZ).  My Beretta M9 kept moving the safety when I drew from the holster.  :o

I EDC a Walther PPS.  No safety, but incredibly easy to conceal, shoot, accurate, and reliable.  The trigger is a 6 out of 10 out of the box.  After break-in, it is a 9 on the striker fired scale, a 10 on the DA scale.  If I didn't have a PPS, I'd buy the Shield and then the Bersa BP9cc.

Too bad there isn't a RAMI single stack.   :'(

Sig P938 currently in rotation.  But I believe my all time favorite which I no longer own[emoji26] was a Sig P225 the orginal production run, not the newer versions.

I keep wondering when CZ is going to enter the compact single stack 9mm world.

I really wish they would, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I remember someone making a good point in another thread, though.  To get a handgun narrow enough to justify a single stack, they'd probably have to nix the slide-inside-the-frame design, which would be a significant change.

Maybe base it on the cz100b or cz110?

I know very little about them though. Other than they don't have cz75 style frame rails.

I carry a shield 40 and really enjoy it. I was doing some shopping a few weeks back and had a chance to check out a lc9. I thought the trigger was garbage it had no reset at all and it just feels way to long of a pull. The shield trigger is not a whole lot better either. But the shield price is very hard to beat.  You could also look into a Sig P938. If they weren't so pricy that would be my edc.

I went with a S&W Shield Performance Center in 9mm. Good trigger upgrades by S&W, fiber optic sights installed by S&W, a safety (which you indicated is a necessary option) and an unnecessarily ported barrel (which keeps it very controllable with defensive ammo). As the Shield is very popular, you have a lot of holster options and information available to you.
