P01 Omega or 75 compact
« on: May 06, 2016, 10:44:45 AM »
I like guns with a safety vs decocker, the omega is convertible, but I read somewhere that the safety parts are plastic? and not reliable, is this true? should I just go with the steel framed 75 compact not that much difference in weight, looking for a carry gun.

I cannot confirm whether the P01 Omega safety/decocker parts are metal or plastic, but from the photos I've seen, they sure look metal. Especially since the attachment method of the right-side lever looks an awful lot like the 85 Combat. The P07/P09 safety/decockers are plastic.

As far as reliability, there are a lot of rounds through the Omega system with good results. I personally haven't had any reason to question the reliability of either my P07 or P09 and you'll find lots of people on this forum that can attest to the Omega system reliability, as well as to that of the standard system. Aftermarket support is good for both trigger systems and I'd have no qualms about carrying either and I currently have a P01 Omega on order.

The compact is one of my favorite CZs. It's an excellent pistol, feels great in the hand and shoots like a dream. The only modifications I've made to mine are the serrated trigger, VZ grips and night sights and I don't intend to change anything else.

With the P01 Omega, there are some notable differences:
- 4oz lighter
- has a rail
- has an extended beavertail
- straighter trigger a-la P07
- interchangeable safety/decocker courtesy of the Omega system
- much easier complete take down/reassembly
- about 3mm thicker in the slide
- still at least 60-90 days until they show up in the states (if that's where you're located)

If I were choosing between the two, the main things I would consider are A. rail/no-rail and B. wait time. Just my $0.02.

Thanks for the input, my LGS has a compact and a p01 in stock will check them out. Not sure if I want to wait 6 months  for an order to come in.

How do you know about the 2 to 3 month wait time? I'm curious because I have one back ordered and everything I've heard is they are in production and should be showing up on the shipping manifest soon, whatever the hell that means...

Just saw on the auction site a seller in RI offering four (as of last night) of the full-size CZ 75 Convertible Omegas. The P01 version might not be far behind for the US market? The P01 is already sold out at the CZUB store in Prague but they probably only got in a couple last month.

Really did not want to wait 6 months for a pistol so got a 75 compact, pick it up tomorrow when I get paperwork done. Sweet!

Unless the switch-ability of the safety-decocker levers is very important and possibly the trigger profile, I don't see a compelling reason to wait that long for an Omega. Congrats on the Compact.

Omega trigger has DEFINITE advantages.
1.  Easy to detail strip and smooth the important DA first shot.
2.  It is almost ALWAYS better OTB - crisper SA and smoother DA and number 1.
3.  If you decide to go C/L, you can do it and its easy to swap.
4.  The new Omega trigger curvature is nicer on the fingers than the reg P01.
5.  The decocker on the Omega is more ergonomic.

I would wait.  Should be here before Hiliary.

The plastic gun levers are plastic. The P01 omega levers will highly likely be metal. They do not look plastic. I am going to pick up a set of drcocker levers for my P02.
snakeye, no worries, I don't need someone in a leotard. :)

The omega will appeal to those of us who are left handed.  My steel compact has a CGW ambi safety that Dave doesn't offer anymore.  But I'll likely be picking up a p 01 omega when they are available.   See this post for a picture.

Picked up the 75 compact yesterday, nice gun going to range today to see how it shoots.
Was surprised to see the guide rod was plastic, anyone replace theirs with a stainless one? Or should I just get a few spare plastic ones?
Will let you know how it shoots.

CZ makes steel and aluminum guide rods in addition to plastic. I've had no issues with the plastic rod but I do keep a few extras on hand.
