Mill or Mount RMR with p-09?
« on: May 18, 2016, 08:55:55 AM »
Hi everyone.   I'm new to this forum and my first question is...

What direction are most users going to these days?  Should I mill my slide or what is the best option for a RMR mount?

So far this is what i have found... i have asked CZ USA, Springer precision, and CZC.

CZ says it won?t fit at all bc the p-09 uses a completely different proprietary rear sight.

Springer says their system states it'll fit on a p-09 but they aren?t certain bc they haven?t tried it before.  Someone must have tried it before in the past.

CZC says the dovetail when comparing a 75 vs a p-09 us the same size but set into the slide at a different depth.  And that is why their is a gap.  But they make almost 20 variants of the racker mount,  so i don't understand why they don't have one specifically for p-09!

I'm waiting for CGW to respond.

Things to consider are lead time and costs.  Most places estimate milling lead time to be >6 weeks, except primary machine.  They are only 2 weeks. And are also the least expensive @ $100 plus refinishing.

I currently own an Accushadow, and i added the CZC racker mount with a dual RMR.  I have gotten accustomed to the extra tall height.

BTW if anyone is looking for a p-09 in urban grey, Damascus has 13 in stock.  I bought their first one, and i should mine tomorrow!!!

RMR's will fit on P series slides. We've milled dozens of them for RMR's.
Here's a couple I have pics of right off.

had springer mount on my P07, worked well, had
primary machine mill the slide, optic sits lower and very
secure. they do excellent work. either way works well, but
milling is much cleaner.

milling is a nicer options. more secure mounting, lower to bore sight radius.

I picked up a CZC picatinney mount for my P/09 and FF3. It required a little filing on the bottom trailing edge of the sight as it had a tiny bit of contact with the slide. Easy fit in the dovetail without any filing. Rds sits a little high of course, but I wanted to try it out and may move it to another pistol. From the rear, the pic rail is the type of iron sight I prefer. From the side it's a little knarly looking, but the P-09 is no beauty queen to begin with. The part itself is nicely machined and finished. For future reference I tried it on a pre-b but the rounded profile of the top of the slide would require milling behind the dovetail.

is it possible to put the BUIS behind the RMR instead of in front of it?

You can. Thing is, the factory rear dovetail is so far forward on the slide that it puts the RMR RIGHT up to the edge of the breech face and the lens is going to get dirty and nasty pretty quickly there.

I had similar concerns (early on) about the rear sight being in front of the RMR but gave it a try on the P09.

After shooting the P09 and P07 (I think both the slide Raining Brass shared are mine - Thanks very much, I LIKE'EM, ALOT!) with the rear sight in front I find:
1) I don't notice it unless I want to use the back up iron sights (that would most likely be true for either location)
2) the amount of the lens the rear sight obscures is the same, whether in front or behind the RMR
3) all the powder residue I wipe off the rear sight is powder residue I don't have on the RMR lens.
4) I feel (no proof) that the rear sight location, if in front of the RMR, helps protect the RMR from a badly deflected piece of brass
5) I find that the rear sight gives me a place to help gain traction on the slide when pulling it to the rear without using the RMR.
6) I bought a $10 lens pen at Walmart (well, two actually) to help clean the lens of the RMR

I'm using the dual illuminated RMR, too.  One green and one amber (the amber is brighter, easier to see under less than favorable conditions).

I recently bought a Leupold Delta Point 3 and back up sight for the next pistol I have a red dot installed on.  Just waiting to come across that P01 with the trigger/safety set up like my P07/P09.

Good luck with yours.  I'm usually pretty tight with my money and took me a long time to talk myself into doing that to a handgun (and spending the money) but I can tell you that it's been worth it for me.

Oh, picture of the whole P09.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I put a Springer Precision mount on a P-09 two years ago and put a Burris Fast Fire 3 3moa sight on it.  I have put 10-15k rounds through the gun with that combination.  Works fine, very stable.

I have a Springer mount on a 97 also, but had to shim it slightly to get it tight.  I took the 75B Springer mount off the 75B and put it on a P-07 tonight and had to shim it nearly 0.020" to get it tight enough.  The dovetail on this P-07 is cut slightly deeper than the 75B, apparently.

If I were you, I would go with the milled slide.  I may do so myself using Primary Machine.  Right now, I have a good Springer setup on 3 pistols, I think.  Will know how stable the P-07 mount is later this week.

I have two years and probably 30k rounds experience with the red dots.  I can't hardly shoot an open sight gun any more.  If you aren't sure, get the Springer and install it and try it for a while, then mill the slide and sell the mount if you like it permanent.

Sir are you intending this for strictly  range or a night stand/ carry weapon?  If you are trying to do the latter let me recommend  L&M precision  the owner was one of the first to start milling custom slides and is one of the best in my opinion.  http://www.landmprecisiongunworks.com He outfitted my CGW CZ p07 with suppressor  height glock style tritium night sights with the rear sight behind the rmr and milled the slide.

Do you have pics? I am planning to send Mark a P-07 as soon as he is back to work next month.

If you don't want a Trijicon I'm reading good things about the Leupold Delta Point Pro.

It also has the option of mounting a Leupold adjustable rear sight to the back of the optic.  My next dot sight on a pistol will be one of those.

I hear the battery life sucks on the Pro.

I vote for L&M. Here's mine:
