Cleaning A New CZ
« on: May 19, 2016, 11:27:04 PM »
HI All...I just located this group and have purchased my first CZ Compact. I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere in this forum but I'm just learning my way around. Anyway being a Glock guy and buying my first CZ I noticed they dunk these pistols in oil and then pack them up. So I have field stripped the CZ and want to clean it up before shooting. Also gave me an opportunity to get to know it. Question is...should I clean this puppy completely and then lube it up or does CZ pack all this grease for the break in period?  Appreciate your comments...

Pops39p,  welcome to the forum.

Clean it all off,  but be sure to relube with your favorite lubes before shooting.  CZs like to run a 'little 'wet',  especially under the trigger bar, on slide rails and action friction points.  Not dripping, but a little oil or your preferred lube every time you shoot.
Different users have different preferences, but I wouldn't lube the firing pin channel and ,maybe just a tiny bit on the extractor pivot point.  In that extractor channel,  gunk can build up and interfere with feeding and extracting.

Looking forward to your shooting results.

One time I shot without cleaning...my P-01. I was too excited to wait. Didn't hurt a thing, but it did spray grease everywhere. Bad juju. Shot laser straight, too. ;) We always have trade offs....
Clean it normally, then lube it normally. I don't run my guns heavy wet, being out here in the dusty desert, and they run just fine.

As has been mentioned - clean before use.

The kind of oil that is good for rust prevention during storage and shipping is usually not the best at lubrication

I have not noticed any difference in shooting my CZ97B either lubed or bone dry.

I would imagine that due to the laws of physics due to friction that bone dry will wear out metal faster than lubed with silicon grease.

But I honestly have not noticed any difference.

I use silicon grease just for general principles but I don't think it really matters.

Therefore I definitely would NOT oil-up a CZ pistol for any reason other than long term storage.

Thanks for your comments. I did clean it up before shooting and oiled it up.  Took it to the range today and put 150 rounds thru it..... I have got to say..wow..I love this pistol. Very nice to shoot-accurate as a dart and I told my wife had I started with CZ's I may not have bought all those Glocks :)

Congrats, a fine choice.
I'm of a mind that all firearms get cleaned out of the box. I'm not only making sure I'm familiar with it, but there's nothing wonky about it before I shoot it. And yeah, CZ puts a lot of oil on their new pieces.
Of course, I've been wrong before...Tony

Hi Pops,

I purchased a new SP01 Tactical at a gun show for a really good price because the seller had difficulty working the slide.
It was really stiff.

I've seen this before with new CZ pistols which still had the factory lube. All I did was cleaned the piece & relube it.
The action now works just fine!

Have fun with your CZ!
Tony
