85b FTE Ave jams
« on: May 23, 2016, 05:49:29 PM »
Got to the range today with the 85b I won a few weeks back. I think it was my 3rd range session with this firearm. I was shooting 115g Winchester white box 9mm rounds. The first 2-3 mags are flawless but on my last mag I had 3 FTEs and one of them jammed it up so hard it took me a while to free the jam and the spent cartridge. (when I say jammed, I've got the mag out and I cannot move the slide at all). Anyways I'm not one to overreact. My experience is that guns are machines and machines can and do fail. I guess I'm just posting this to see if anyone has similar experience. I've had FTE in other guns but this felt more like something was wrong with the pistol. Hard to describe.  Besides that issue it shot great and is a nice pistol.

I should add that these are not stovepipes. The spent cartridge is in the chamber, partially ejected. I guess it's a malfunction of the extractor. It appears that it grabbed the shell and pulled it back about 1/4" and then let it go. That's the best way I can describe it.

How did you manage to clear the jam?

I think CZ's like 147 or 124 grain bullets better than 115's especially when new. See if that doesn't take care of the jams and after 500 rounds it'll probably feed the lighter bullets.

I'm assuming you did clear the jam. What did the brass look like? It does sound like an ammo problem.
Your CZ should have no problem running good 115 gn or any other weight that will fit in the chamber.
