Ammo for CZ 75 SP-01
« on: May 29, 2016, 05:21:35 PM »
CZ tells me they recommend 115 grain 9mm ammo for the CZ 75 SP-01 firearm.

I was wondering if any members can recommend particular ammo they like for this firearm for the shooting range.

Any preference in using Winchester 9mm ammo versus Federal American Eagle 9mm ammo? (both FMJ)

I've heard that the Winchester ammo is a little cleaner.

Federal has a reputation as dirty ammo.  However you were going to clean you gun anyway, right?
My SP-01 has digested everything that I have put in it.  Personally I like the 124gr bullet and, since I load my own about 100 fps slower that the usual factory stuff (1120fps) it is pleasant to shoot.  It probably would not make the power factor for competition but it does make holes in the target.

I like S&B 115 FMJ. Cheap, clean, reliable very accurate.
PRVI Partizan 115 FMJ and Pobjeda (brass) 115 FMJ is also a great choice. Those are frequently found at very good prices on bulk ammo internet sales.

Sellier & Bellot is made in the Czech Republic, so it makes sense it would go well with a Czech-made CZ.

What about reloads?  They are cheap, but are they OK for the gun?

CZ works reliably with wide range of ammo including quality reloads, but factory ammo I have mentioned is cheaper than most reloaded ammo sold, so unless you reload yourself i don't see why you would use it. I am not talking about expensive "match grade" target ammo produced by Atlantic Arms, Wilson etc. Just basic quality range ammo for moderate pistol distances.

If you're asking "What factory ammo is good for plinking," it's safe to assume that any big name factory round nose jacketed ammo is going to meet your needs.  And your pistol isn't going to care one bit if it's 115gr or 124gr.  No reason to get into any more detail than that.  You have nothing to worry about.   ;)

I shoot my own reloads. But before I got my press, I shot lax ammo reloads and never had issues. only had to change the recoil spring to a lighter one for reliability

This I got to know about. Who did you talk to at CZ ? Just saying because Angus Hobdell is a regular contributor on the board, and he shoots a 124gr.

You have to do a little decoding, Wobbly.  The manual just says to use quality ammo of the appropriate from a commercial manufacturer, BUT all you have to do is look at the final alpha-numeric symbols on the first and fifteenth pages of the manual, and the message is pretty clear.

If I didn't "roll my own", I'd shoot Freedom Munitions 124 gn remanufactured. Buy by the case.    Watch for sales.

If you aren't independently wealthy and you will shoot more than 5000 a year, reloading is worth the money.    If you want another hobby that's lots of fun, it's worth it at about 2000 a year.

Custom 9mm for 10 cents a round, what's not to like?
