Looking at possibly getting a 97BD......
« on: May 31, 2016, 07:51:54 PM »
How does it compare to a Sig P220?

I know the 220 is a single stack so the grip will be thinner but for those that have shot both what is your impression?  Recoil? Accuracy etc?

I have a P220 Scorpion but haven't shot
.45 too much as of late.

I bought a CZ75 Omega Convertible a week or so ago to go with my SP-01 Tactical.....now the 97BD has caught my eye

My guess is due to the weight it is a decently soft shooter?

My 15 yo daughter and 13yo son shoot my 97B fairly well.  No issues.  You will feel that it has less felt recoil that the sig p220

Don't buy a 97 unless you want a .45acp that recoils like a typical 9mm.

BTW, even though the 97 is a sort-of double stack, the grips are thin like a 1911. In fact, that was my primary complaint about the 97 and was solved by getting the thicker CZ factory plastic grips. If it were me, I'd increase the magazine to a true double stack and 12 or 14 rounds and have a thicker grip to begin with.

Made the mistake of holding one at a LGS.  Wow!

Only issue is price.  850 a little steep in my eyes.  May have to go the Grab a Gun route

Back at the LGS.  He matched Grab a Gun price plus his transfer fee. 767 OTD

I think the BD is a great choice.

For what it's worth, I'd definitely find one at a local shop (if at all possible) to see how it feels in your hand.  I have the 97BD and absolutely love it, but I have to admit it may be on the verge of being just too big for my medium-sized hands.

With that said ... every time I have considered selling the bleep thing, firing off a few rounds that hit right where I aim makes me wonder what the hell I was thinking.

its always a wise decision to handle a particular model weapon before buying it.
Myself I took the thin aluminum grips off my 97 BD and replaced with the rubber CZ grips as I like the feel better. the thin grips were  very good but I like the rubber grips that I have on all my Cz's better.
this is one nice, accurate 45 acp that runs very close to any of my 1911's.
if it had a set of  finer adjustable sights it would likely outshoot the 1911;s.

Hello,

To comment on your question about recoil, the only thing I know is that my military 1911 had more of a kick.  I was very surprised when I shot the 97 - I expected equal or worse recoil, but after my first 250 rounds, I was very happy to find that I didn't have a blister from "beaver tail rub", nor did the gun display the same amount of vertical jump as the 1911 had.

I only shoot "free hand", no rests, so at 15, 25 and 50 yards, I was able to get back on target faster with the 97.  The first month I've had it I shot 1000 rounds and the feel gets better.

Whatever you go with, I hope you like it!

Rob

I rented a Sig 220 to shoot before deciding to buy my 97B.  I think the 97B is softer on the recoil.
Mine came with the thing aluminum factory grips which fit my hand perfectly.
Since then I had Cajun Gun Works do the E-conversion on it and it is a dream to shoot now.
I only wish that my LGS had a BD for sale back then as I prefer decockers to safeties.
